Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Took Chewie to be groomed today and for his first REAL FURcut.  His fur was very long...at least 4  or 5 inches.  I talked to the groomer at length trying to be very specific about what I wanted.  I think between me not realizing what a particular length would look like and her deciding what she really thought he sould look like, we have quite the transformation.  He looks like he lost 15 lbs and his legs got twice as long...LOL.  With a much "closer" haircut I can really see the shape of his body and his poodle genes are shining through.  I'm still in shock and although he looks cute, he doesn't look like my Chewie.  My 8 yo granddaughter started crying when she saw him.  I'd say the fur on his body is between 1-1/2 and 2" long..

Well, I know it will grow back and this will be much easier to maintain as he was starting to get some mats.  It will be fun seeing it grow out and deciding what length we like best.  I'll try to post before and after pics tomorrow.

You are going to like it actually. I know it is a shock, but during this stage in our pups lives, a shorter cut is much much easier with the matting. Is it about this long (taken 2 months ago right after Peri's cut and it grows VERY fast). I know she has a sweater on but you can see how short it is at the base of her back.

Yes Allyson, probably close to that, maybe a drop shorter. Luckily I made sure to say not to trim his face...it had been touched up at his last grooming (FFF...feet, fanny, face) and was good the way it was. I also told her not to touch the top of his head, but she did.

Everyone else...thanks, I know it will grow...I'm just so shocked still when I look at him. I think the worst part is how very short she made his belly. She said it was matted and they can't brush/comb there...too sensitive. I don't think it was matted...I'm always checking, but what do I know. This woman seemed quite proud of her work. She said she's been doing this for 35 years and she's very proud of this.

I'm off to take a picture. I know how to attach a link, but how do I get the actual photo ( not the file name to click on) to show in this thread (like Allyson did). I managed it once, but can't seem to figure it out again.
Type your text and then use the camera icon above to attach the picture. If you use the upload files then it is an attachment instead of being in the post. Also, when you use the camera it will show a bunch of computer symbols and letters. You will not be able to see the picture until after you add your post.
I have to say I think this cut is adorable. No she isn't really long and shaggy, but she is still shaggy, they left the legs longer so they don't look all skinny, got a beard, got a top knot, can see her eyes -- just adorable. This has to be an easy cut to maintain -- especially during snow time. Hard to see the top of her back -- maybe just a touch short, but overall, great cut! Peri's coloring looks very much like Sophie's. I think Sophie is getting more apricot all the time on her back. (Maybe by the time she is 10 I'll have my own Astro, Timbow, Gus or Molly colored dog! lol.
Thanks for the compliment! We were actually VERY pleased with the cut and will be taking her back to the same groomer in a few months for a summer cut just like this.
Poor Chewie, I know how you feel, my Chewie just got a "trim" and looked nothing like himself. But it did grow back fast. He goes again next Wednesday and I am scared of what he will look like. Funny how different all the fur makes them look. I can't wait to see the pictures. I am sure he is still adorable !!!
This must be the week for "poodliztion" of our Doods. It was Guinness's turn yesterday. This groomer does such an awesome job on his body, and always gets any mats out without having to shave. He had a couple that I just couldn't get out, and she worked on him for two hours until she removed them (with no cutting). The problem is she just can't get the face right. I'm pretty sure I can "correct" it today. She didn't shave...just scissor cut. I should be able to remove the big poof on the top of his head by wetting it down and trimming a little. I just don't get why it's so difficult. I even brought pictures. What's not to understand?
Okay, I watched Adina's video "how-to" so let's give it a try...

It worked...I'm so excited!
Awww, he still looks cute !!! But it is quite a difference. You are right he looks about half the size. It is amazing how much fur they have.
You did a great job with the photos. Chewie looks cute either way but somewhere in between would be perfect!
Chewie looks adorable !
Scares me to death to get Wilson's Big Boy haircut =: O...but I would be very happy to have him look like Chewie afterwards!! Looks so handsome and proud!!!
