Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Took Chewie to be groomed today and for his first REAL FURcut.  His fur was very long...at least 4  or 5 inches.  I talked to the groomer at length trying to be very specific about what I wanted.  I think between me not realizing what a particular length would look like and her deciding what she really thought he sould look like, we have quite the transformation.  He looks like he lost 15 lbs and his legs got twice as long...LOL.  With a much "closer" haircut I can really see the shape of his body and his poodle genes are shining through.  I'm still in shock and although he looks cute, he doesn't look like my Chewie.  My 8 yo granddaughter started crying when she saw him.  I'd say the fur on his body is between 1-1/2 and 2" long..

Well, I know it will grow back and this will be much easier to maintain as he was starting to get some mats.  It will be fun seeing it grow out and deciding what length we like best.  I'll try to post before and after pics tomorrow.

Despite your feeling that the cut is alittle short, I think Chewie looks great and that the groomer did an excellent job. LOVE the carpet analogy. Gavin's looks like indoor/outdoor and it needs vacuuming!
Awe... Laura. He still is your Chewie, just without all that hair.... I do personally LOVE the hair long, but then again, my hair is very long and wavy/curly... so maybe I'm partial to long hair - LOL.... When Tori got this kind of haircut from Petco, I kept calling her Baa,Baa, Black sheep. Their hair does look like velvet tho'. I feel your pain, but he is so cute, and just think no more mats for quite a while!
That's funny, Shelly. I think I'll call Chewie Baa Baa Apricot sheep. What's another nickname when he already has so many.
Glad you can chuckle a bit now... HUH! These doodles and their "issues" as bad as our human kids!
Chewie looks great, especially for a first cut. Murphy's hair was about that long when I took him for his first haircut.
I took pictures for the groomer and they still SHAVED him! I was horrified and never went back. I now tell the new groomer to take about half off...and err on the long side.
He still looks cute. Sonny has had 2 TERRIBLE groomings. The first they left his body and head somewhat long but shaved his muzzle. The 2nd she practically shaved his entire body and gave him a weird facial cut that was finally growing in from the first bad cut, but left his head and tail so long he just looked like a Q-tip. I am bringing him to a new groomer on Sat. She "met" him last weekend and said it will take several months just to get him back into shape so I can start growing it again. At least there is hope. I feel for you. I love the shaggy look but he really is still very cute!
When I returned from Italy I took Archie to the groomer for a bath and cut. They called me that he was too matted for just a trim as they could not brush him out. When I picked him up at first I thought they brought me the wrong dog. He was tall and skinny, shaved and had a big head. I had to look twice and then nearly burst into tears. Even with new growth he looks like a standard poodle. Does the matting ever stop so the hair can be longer? I longed for a wavy coat but it seems to be getting more curly as he gets bigger and bigger!!!! Is curly now the mature coat at a year and a half? Break the news to me gently. Audrey
