dog friendly on Long Island?

Hi.  I have two doodles in the Rochester area, but will be traveling to visit my daughter in Port Jefferson on Easter weekend, bringing the doggies.  Anybody have suggestions on park areas (BEACHES???) in the area where we can get out and play?

There is a dog park in Blydenburgh Park - in Smithtown. We took Casper there a few weeks ago & he had a great time.
We also took him to West Meadow Beach (Setauket area) , I don't think you are "allowed" to bring pets there but it was after a snowstorm & there was nobody there....Have fun!

Oh yeah, we also took him on a great hike through Avalon last weekend, located in Stony Brook. THAT was awesome!
All 3 things that I mentioned are about 15-20 min. from Port Jeff.

Thank you Lori, so much! Looks like we may have a nice weekend, so we would love to explore. I know the West Meadow Beach, are there "official" people around there this time of year?

I think the "officials" come a little later on in the season. Have FUN!!!
Out of the 3 places I recommended, I enjoyed Avalon the most... flowers should be starting to bloom shortly too : )

Well, just to let you know, the "officials" are out! My daughter and I visited West Meadow Beach yesterday morning, which my guys loved, but as we were getting ready to leave, an officer (from the park department, I believe) pulled up and gave me a ticket of some sort, citing the "zero tolerance" policy of the town. I have to call to find out what I have to pay, but I guess it was worth it. It's a beautiful place! Haven't had time to visit Avalon, maybe next time.
