And I knew I was throwing it away as I did it! I knew he wouldn't like it! I told the cashier he wouldn't like it as I was paying for it. Why would he like it? Just because every other doodle in captivity likes antlers? Just because I finally found an American made, wholesome, healthy chew object that will last more than 20 minutes, help keep his teeth clean, and doesn't come from a dead animal? Just because I'm his mother and he's supposed to love me?

My bill at the pet supply store today was $122.95. And 33.95 plus tax was for this antler. I will be back there again within the week, it's not like I stocked up. Two 5.5# bags of Orijen, 2 beef tendons, a bag of Jones Natural liver treats, some cat food, some litter, and a pet-hair-remover roller. That's it. Every clerk in the store knows my name by heart, as well as the retired man who hands out samples. I see them more often than I see my kids.

I saw an adoption application the other day where someone estimated the normal annual cost of having a doodle...food, routine vet care, grooming, etc...at $500. A year. Best laugh I've had all week.

Is there anyone in the Chicago area who would like a brand new untouched Buckarooz American made "Monster Premium" deer antler? I still have the wrapper. Come on over. Bring your doodles. We have all sorts of delicious and tempting chew items and bones all over the floor. It's like an Easter egg hunt for dogs. Pick it up & it's yours! I could pay my mortgage with what's lying on the family room floor at this moment alone. Bring a shopping bag. Bring your friends.

I give up. This crazy doodle has finally driven me past the point of no return.

I think she's been talking to Guinness and the others. I think they've told her to do this to make you crazy enough to stop giving her this dog food and start home cooking.
Jackdoodle sure is picky. And that antler was sure expensive, Karen!!! WOW. Must have been huge.
The $500 a year is laughable. I probably spend that every two months between daycare, grooming, food and the vet. And if you throw Taquito in the mix, forget it. $300 vet appt. yesterday. Yes it was for titers, bloodwork, and some heartworm meds, but STILL!
The antler was huge, and my pet supply store is the best! They told me I can bring it back with the packaging & the receipt, and get a refund. But I'll probably just take a store credit, lol!
What a great refund policy! No doubt you are their best customer.
Not only am I their best customer, but every chance I get, I steer people away from the Nutro & Hills over to the Orijen & EVO section...ka-ching! That may have something to do with it, lol.
Wow that is so nice - can't believe you can return it!!!
I do think about 1/2 of our doods LOVE antlers and the other 1/2 could care less....
$500 a year? Do they assume that doodles actually live on fairy dust and moonbeams? Jackdoodle is so very much not a dog (no cheese??? still haven't gotten over that one!). Perhaps Jackdoodle would prefer a nice crossword puzzle or sudoku game in lieu of all these "dog-like" pursuits!? (I just got an adorable mental picture of JD in hornrimed glasses, bent over a crossword puzzle book with a pensive look on his face.)
$500/yr??? Hahahaha, what a joke.

Each week, we go to Tractor Supply, to pick up food...treats, bones, chewies, toys and on and on.

We NEVER get out of there without spending, at least, $100!
Been there, done that. BUT I bought 3 and they could have cared less, guess what? Several months later they materialized from who knows where and they were going to town on them. Try scraping it on concrete on the ends, it may get his interest as they seem to enjoy it more when they start making progress into them and this 'freshens' it a bit for them. Good luck!
Oops forgot, Ziwi Peak has one that is a slice of the antler (larger antlers) and most of the owners I have spoke with say their dog has more interest in this since they can get at the internal portion they want.
I just paid 31.99 for 4 of the antlers, and none of my dogs are crazy about them either. I thought they would love them after hearing all the talk about them. They also were selling some at 42.00 a pound. The clerk said they had glucosamine and chondroitin in them. And she handed me a pamphlet about the medicinal benefits for older arthritic dogs.
Were you planning on attending our Wisconsin Romp? You can bring your goodies to it, LOL
I am going to try to make it to the romp! But I was able to return the antler to the store, thankfully!
I've cut back Jack's food about a half cup a day, and lately, he has been poking around in his basket of bones for something, poor starving overweight doodle! He rarely chews on anything he takes out of there, but apparently it entertains him to scatter them over the rug.
