Who's that strange dog with Brody's collar on????

Oh Man, I'm so upset. My wife took Brody to Petco for a grooming before Easter today for a bath and a hair cut. When I came to pick him up, he was SHAVED!!!

I thought I had been keeping up with his dematting while his coat changes, but aparently they claim otherwise, and that shaving was the only option.

My poor dood is shaved down to about a 1/4" cut. His tail is shaved, too. They gave him these strange puffy cheeks like a shnauzer and a dome on his head like a poodle.

I honestly thought they were giving me the wrong dog until I saw his collar... I still wasn't sure but then he farted and I knew he was mine. LOL!

I'm so upset, that I want to cry. I dont even recognize my Brody. He still has his loving, soulful eyes, and his offensive gas, but that's about it. I cant wait for him to grow back.

Since doodles do not shed , the new hair gets "trapped" in the old when the puppy coat changes to the adult coat.This leads to mat formation. There is lots of information on how to groom to prevent this in the group.

I know everyone hates to see their beautiful doodle cut down like that and I hate to have to do this too. But sometimes we have no choice when our doodles are going through a coat change and underneath all this hair lies masses of mats that are right down to the skin. It is not something you can just comb out especially if you bathed them. The knots turn into rocks and it is impossible to comb out, it must be clipped off without hurting the dogs and the dogs come first as far as I am concerned. So think of it as a new start, before you know it the coat will be back and beautiful. I tell my clients it takes two of us to make the coat look long and mat free. You must comb out from the skin using a comb, if your doodle is mat free I will keep your doodle long we have to work as a team.

What do we do when we KNOW the dog was not matted but still trimmed too short? Few weeks ago I took Rosco to PetCo and looked at his coat with the groomer. She agreed he was 3 inches long and acknowledged I wanted him down to 1.5 inches. I picked up a dog with a 1/2 inch coat!! Now Rosco is 4 years old and in his whole life thus far he has RARELY had any mats. He sheds. Any of the FEW mats he has had were easy to remove (Ive always been his groomer). So there was NO reason to have trimmed him 3 times shorter than I asked. Is this a case where you would still pay? (I did and the groomer already left for the day).

Adina, I am too non-confrontive to take my own advice, but I would advise not paying. Poor craftsmanship should not be rewarded. I would have complained to the manager though.

Poor Brody. We went through the same thing with our foster Brogan. Thank heavens their coats will grow out.

When Ted gets shaved, we call him Ed. He does have a nice silhouette.

We now have a good groomer who does free brush outs every few weeks; when it's time for the actual haircut, it is so much nicer for everyone!! And they do scissor cuts, no shaving unless you ask.
