I am going to pick up some food for Tyson today, and I want to get him some treats. I'd especially like to get him something(s) that would be good for him to chew. I've seen people talking about antlers in these discussions. What are those exactly? What other good chew treats might be recommended, especially any particular brands I should choose. For that matter, are there any particular brands I should stay far away from?
Thanks, I remember that discussion about where to buy them cheap. I will keep that in mind if Tyson likes them, which I am sure he will! I picked one up this afternoon, and will wait to give it to Tyson until the 6th, which is his 2nd birthday! :)
Timbow LOVES Zukes treats (all of them) and they do have a dental bone chew (great recommendation from Jane :) ), but they don't last very long. Antlers are great and a lot of specialty stores to carry them. You can also go to your local butcher shop and get a marrow bone and give it to him raw. Good luck! :)
Thanks for the recommendation! I wasn't able to find the zukes dental bones, but I did find a zukes venison jerky that I decided to try for Tyson. I will keep looking for the dental bones. And I got one of the antlers, so we will see how Tyson likes it! It's his birthday on the 6th (my baby will be 2!), so we're saving it until then for him. Thanks again for the suggestions!
The venison jerky (is it the Z-filets?) smells wonderful, and it's one of the few treats Jack will usually accept (he's picky). It just doesn't last very long.
That's the one-the z-filets! Yeah, I figure Tyson will scarf it down pretty quickly. I'm glad to hear Jack likes those; I am sure Tyson will too. I'm going to hold off on giving them to him for a little while though, because I also got a small bag of a new Acana flavor (new to Tyson, not new on the market), and I don't want to be giving him two new things at the same time just in case one doesn't agree with him. I want to know which item would be affecting him in that case, although I am hoping everything works for him! I definitely can't wait to let him try the antler!
Thanks for that link, Karen. I thought I remembered seeing a similar discussion, but couldn't remember when it was , and when I did a search I got tons of discussions and looked through a few of them and didn't see one that was what I was looking for. That link was exactly what I wanted! I ended up getting Tyson a few of the things I had seen recommended, and can't wait to give them to him. Poor guy has hardly had any treats in ages; we have mainly used his food as treats for at least 6 months or more, and only rarely give a tiny bit of peanut butter when we've had to do stuff to his ears. But everything is going so well with the Acana, that I figure it's about time he get to enjoy some stuff again! Especially with his birthday right around the corner!
