Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I truly was surprised just how many in our DK family have rescued Doodles. I would love if everyone would share their story in the Rescued Doodles Group. I know most don't have the whole story as to why their Doodle ever needed rescuing but share as much as you know.

If you already posted your story, update it and share more pictures.

PS - if anyone can help another doodle find their way into a loving new furever family, let me know.

I didn't get Marley's picture up in time to get into the slideshow, but here's his story. It's a pseudo-rescue story (no rescue group, but I definitely rescued the poor guy). My aunt forwarded me a free-to-good home craigslist ad. The pictured doodle looked so cute! I dropped them a quick e-mail, figuring the dog would already be gone since the ad was 4 days old. To my surprise they called me and the husband brought him to my house that night (smelling like liquor)! He was 13 months old and had been a litter-leftover that the breeder sold to this family discounted (friends of friends, supposedly). The family NEVER took him to the vet or groomed him. He was so matted, his poor lips were matted. Luckily, he had been early neutered. Since the family had a young toddler who the Marley "knocked over a lot," he spent most of his days in a small kennel or in the mud in their small yard. No obedience , obviously. He was so fearful of new situations because he was never socialized. Today, he is a total cuddle bug, and we walk all over the place. His confidence is growing daily! He still occasionally cowers if we walk towards him, which breaks my heart. He only gets kenneled now 1-2 times a week at most (in a large exercise pen) and loves the huge grassy back yard. He and Lizzie are best buds and love to cuddle with each other. We also gave him a middle name: Marley McFly!
Marlow was a pet shop boy! Bought at the local mall petstore for grandkids and when he got large, they kept him tied to a tree outside and crated at night. IN PHOENIX, AZ! Can you imagine doing this to a dog in the heat??? Thank goodness the neighbor talked them into giving him up. I saw the listing on DRC and the rest was fate! He was listed with a rescue in CA, but when I called, I found out that he was actually in Phoenix and we were about 20 miles from him in Scottsdale! This was the first picture I saw of Marlow (formerly Mateo)

And here he is today after a year with us this month!

Java Joe was not a rescue but a rehome. He left his breeder at 8 weeks and was the first puppy chosen from the litter. His new owner kept him for 4 weeks, but then she realized he was not going to be the big, fluffy Australian labradoodle of her dreams. Joe's hair is wool, with very tight curls, and he doesn't have a fluffy face. Also when he licked his new owner she would get a rash because she had terrible allergies.

The new owner and the breeder had a disagreement about all of this on the breeder's discussion board on the web site. I was home recuperating from an extended illness and saw the posts on the breeder's web site where the new owner and the breeder were having the rather heated exchange. I had Joe's half-brother, Capp, that my husband had bought for me during my illness. Capp was 8 months old when we saw Joe's story on the breeder's discussion board.

When I told my husband my story he said, 'Why don't you contact the owner and see if we could offer this dog a home." I never thought I could handle two

doodles. I also had a dachshund at the time. The owner told me she would GIVE Joe to me if I would fly him to South Carolina from New York.
We did, and the rest is history. Java Joe Doodles, as we renamed him, doesn't look like the typical Australian labradoodle. He is SO MUCH lab! He carries things in his mouth when he is at his happiest moments, and he swims everyday. He is also EXTRA, EXTRA HYPER. Java Joe is the complete opposite of his half-brother. We love both of them to pieces, and together they make the perfect dog combination for this family.

They are totally devoted to each other, and can't stand to be a part.
You are very lucky to have a husband you asked YOU to get a 2nd doodle! What a wonderful Happy Tail!!
