My Goldendoodle Buddy was 2 years old in February. He did not shed at all up until he hit about the 14 month mark. Then, he started to shed like crazy!!! I vacuum several times per day and still there are giant hair bunnies everywhere. He also has dry skin. No hot spots or sores. We brush him regularly, clip him short, and he is on Iams with a fish oil supplement. His coat is oily and shiny. Any suggestions? My husband is getting grumpy about the hair in the butter! lol!!! (By the way, if this is the way his adult coat is, we don't care, we love him anyway...just wondering if it might be a problem)
Is he an F1? sometime they will shed. My Pando is an F1, and I thought he didn't really shed until my golden passed a month ago. I thought I would not have dog hair on my floor anymore. Surprise...I do have some, but not the same amount as I did with my golden. Someone with a better knowlege of this will hopefully answer you. :-)
Hi!! It is very normal for F1's to shed to some degree. The fish oil supplements that you're giving are great, but you could be feeding better food than Iams! Check out the food group! :) http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup
I think it you keep brushing him regularly it will help some with the shedding! :)
Definitely join the Food Group, for lots of info on healthier food choices for Buddy. However, there is no food that will stop a dog who sheds from shedding. Even the fatty acids, which are excellent for skin & coat, will not stop hair that's meant to fall out from falling out. If hair loss is from a medical condition, it's a different story. But in that case, there would be many other signs of illness besides shedding.
Is he scratching a lot? Chewing his feet or legs? Does he have a "new" doggie smell? Just wondering because our Aus Labradoodle started shedding like crazy when she developed seasonal allergies last year.
