Remington has a small cut by his right eye from scratching near his face.  He keeps on scratching at it which just make the cut open again.  Is there anything that I can put on it that would help it heal?  I'm worried about putting anything on it because it is so close to his eye???  Advice appreciated!

If it's that close to his eye, I'd have the vet look at it. There are ointments made for use in the eye area, but I think they're Rx only. I'd be concerned about the possibility of infection if he's scratching the area.
How do I stop him from scratching at it? I mean it will heal and then he starts itching it and it makes a new scratch???
The vet can probably prescribe something that will help stop the itching - then he will stop the scratching. How long has this been lasting?
We have had stuff prescribed, but it doesn't seem to help really???
Oh you have something prescribed---call him back and tell them to get you something that WORKS.
Topical antibiotic ointment is permitted to use in the eye but usually this dose is lower than what you would put on a topical cut. Also the longer it is used the more sensitive the eye can become so use is sparingly. If it is the cornea or sclera see a vet now.

P.S. NO CORTISONE!
It's not on the eye, but the lower eye lid
I say use non-steroidal anti-biotic cream but I AM NOT A VET :) If it were me and I felt it was not bad enough to see a vet but still needed attention, that is what I would do with the dogs I love.
Thanks! I do not think it is bad enough to see a vet... not at all! I will try this.
Does he have dew claws? Try taping his foot. Easier said than done. Maybe he will spend so much time trying to get the tape off he will stop scratching the eye. Get him a good leg bone to chew on... that may also keep him busy for awhile.
Without cortisone, the itching will continue, though. Maybe a gauze covering to keep him away from it until it heals?
The last time I took Sophie to the groomers (justification for LAST visit to follow) they also clipped her toenails. Whatever shampoo they used did not set well with her and she was scratching like crazy. By the time we got home she had scratched her back so badly (because of just clipped toenails) it looked awful. I put thick white socks on her feet (ones with lots of elastic in them until I got some meds on and in her to stop the itching. She didn't love them, but she left them on.
