Lifts HER leg to pee.

When I walk my female dog she marks over poo and other smells she finds along the way.  She has also begun lifting one of her back legs when she pees!  Do any other female dogs do this?!  I wonder if she learned this from watching male dogs???

They don't learn it from male dogs; the marking over places where another animal has "gone" is a dominance behavior.
I had a female dog who kind of lifted her leg when she peed; she's tilt to one side and lift the non-weight bearing rear leg. The reason for this positioning is because the dog doesn't want to stand in it's own pee.

.My female Rottweiler has done this for the last several years. She is six, but this habit did not start as a young dog. I too feel that dominances behind the behavior. In Freya's case she is not dominate over Winston (as one night think), but to dogs outside her pack. She also doesn't display this behavior every time she goes potty on a walk, it seems to be random

It is so funny that you post this because Fenway (who is a girl) just started doing this a few weeks ago. She doesn't mark, but she stands on three legs to pee and kind of lifts one of the back ones up. It's not like she's really lifting her leg high or anything, but it's odd just the same. What's even funnier is that our male dog doesn't lift his leg to pee. I think we have a bit of gender confusion around here!

YUP ZOEY LIFTS HER LEG TO PEE AND TO POOP...SHE HAS DONE THIS SINCE THE DAY I BROUGHT HER HOME.

I think I have the same gender problem here too... Ozzy does not lift his leg to pee either, and he is a boy....Zoey does get the attention when she goes it really is the funniest thing...

Allie doesn't "mark" much, but she does lift one leg while she pees! I just figured she did that so that she wouldn't get any on her.

I used to have a pug and she lifted her leg to pee....we used to call it her ballet pose. My MALE goldendoodle, however, squats to pee....lol go figure!
