Oh, such good information. I can't decide what to do. I had her groomed at the beginning of the month and was NOT pleased with the results. I've also trimmed her hair myself before. Sometimes I do a great job, other times I remind myself that I'm not a groomer and I shouldn't pretend to be one. My pup is still blowing her puppy coat and mats VERY easily. I brush her daily and still find a matted area every time. We've got a beach trip planned in a week and I might try a new place to get her cut down to make that easier. Such a great discussion.
Yup, I take my two down to 1/4 inch also with nice fluffy tails, heads and ears :) They grow back at astonishing speed, by the next bath and blow out they are already a little fluffy again.
Black-dog Porter most definitely gets a summer cut...though actually he was down to 1-1.5 inches most of the winter too.
I am a bit of an oddball in that I ask the groomer to trim him even all around, and shorter on the muzzle, w/o poof and big ears. I love seeing his face and eyes.
I am happy to report that I have been combing his tail with conditioner so it is not matted, and he has not recently ripped out any large chunks of hair. So, I don't think he will have to have the Eeyore tail again anytime soon! (Half shaved, half poofy) Keeping my fingers crossed.
my avatar photo is of rubys summer cut grown out a few months. she was clipped at 1/4" all over besides tail ears and face. it was a shock she looked so skinny but i like it much better now that its grown out a little. I will probably have her trimmed once more if it gets too shaggy cuz i live near lakes and a river and will be taking her swimming often once its warmer out. GL
I am taking Coach Wednesday to the groomer. I can't decide how short to go! Thanks for your info. because it will help me know what to tell the groomer.
