Hondo started out carrying the newspaper in from the road when he was a puppy. Our old poodle (Bruno) had the job before he did, so we always gave each of them a treat when Hondo delivered the paper. Later, Hondo wanted to bring in the mail and would jump up to try to get it out of our hands. Lately, he has been wanting to bring in the groceries or the things we picked up shopping. He runs to the car to greet me and wants bags of things to bring in (and of course his treat afterwards). We don't give him anything made of glass or breakable, but he will try anything else. Groucho Too does not have the desire to bring in things, but he does want a treat. Hondo actually avoids him and goes through the living room to get to the pantry. We say GT is on the retirement plan (as we did with Bruno). He can bring in the newspaper on his own but would prefer to try to take it away from Hondo. It is very comical to watch.
Ha ha! This sounds like my doodle. Paisley always has something in her mouth. She loves to carry her leash (which is comical) and likes to carry little stuffed toys all over the place. While most dogs rip them to shreds, eyeballs in all, Paisley has yet to destroy one. She just carries them and "shows them off" to others. I'll have to teach her to use that skill to be of use like your dogs. :)
That is exactly what Hoda does. She has stuffed animals( we call her babies). She also does not tear them up. She carries them everywhere with her. The one strange thing she does is she will lay down and place them in her front paws and hold them in her mouth like she is sucking on them. I haven't figured what thats all about but with a doodle who knows, they have their quirky behaviors! She also does the newspaper, mail, and will bring you almost anything you ask for. Gotta love em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I have a picture of Hoda with one of her babies posted. Also when she gets a new one she'll really strut around with it for a while.
What great service.I'd love to teach mine to do that. I have a neighbor who does that when he here in his son's house for part of the year but he's about to return to Turkey. I'm afraid my two would view this as an opportunity to see the rabbit nest a neighbor has in her lawn, or some other attraction.
That is so funny Hoda our labradoodle does the same thing. Every morning we open the garage door and she runs as fast as she can to get the newspaper. When we check the mail, she has to carry something in and if my husband is in his office upstairs she will carry the newspaper or mail all the way up to him. If the mailbox is empty she can't understands and starts barking. If we are eating at the table and forgot to give her a treat she will stand in the pantry and stare at the treat box until you get up and giver her one. She also does the grocery bag deal, although I haven't been able to get her to carry one, I need to keep trying. Its funny how much their personalities are alike.
