How much to feed 1 year old goldendoodle

Our pup is 13 months now and weighs about 65 pounds.  He is very tall and quite lean.  He is also extremely active....3 mile walks or dog parks, etc.  For just about the past year, we have been feeding him about 4 cups daily (2 in morning and 2 for dinner) of Taste of the Wild.  I wanted to know how much you all feed your doodles of this age and of similar size.  I ask my vet and he never gives me a straight answer.  Always says to check the back of the bag or he tells me he just leaves the food and when the dog eats he eats.  (I don't leave the food out all day.)  Lately I notice Seamus has slowed down with his eating habits (maybe now eating 3 cups daily or skipping breakfast, but he often does this when it's hot out.)  Just wondering if I should be changing his food intake now that he is over a year.

I also have a one year old doodle. Turned one in April. He's 82 lbs. and has also slowed down on what's he was eating. I've been able to follow the guidelines on the bag and it seems to be going along with his decreased appetite. Still growing though.....I'll continue with the large breed puppy food until he's 2.

My Maddy is just about 16 months old and weighs 65 lbs also..but she isn't long and lean...she has much more of a golden retriever build...short legs and stocky - lol. She also eats TOTW (Pacific stream). She was eating 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups at night but just around a year we cut her back to 1 1/2 cups 2x a day. Now she is eating much less in the morning..her choice..she gets about 2/3 of a cup and 5 or 6 baby carrots and she eats 1 1/2 cups at night. There have been mornings where she doesn't want to eat also. We pick up her bowl after about 1/2 hour and we just feed her dinner meal around the usual time. She only gets one treat a day..a medium size biscuit in the morning and maybe a couple of carrots when I'm making lunches at night for the next day (she comes running when she hears the crisper drawer open in the fridge - lol). We are hoping to keep her weight right around where it is because she is more short and stocky.

Hi Lindsay...

My Sasha was one in April...and she is about 65-70 lbs.
She is now on Fromms...and she loves it!
I had so much help form the food people...and they were WONDERFUL!!
I don't know what I would have done without them!

She is eating twice a day..2 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the evening.
I don't feed her a lot of treats at all.
When I give her the salmon...she eats it so fast you can't believe it!! (smile)
When she has the duck...she eats it slowly...so...I think that it's a matter of what they like best..
I am very comfortable...with feeling that she is eating when she is hungry...and as much as she needs.

By the way...I am SO VERY THANKFUL..TO ALL OF THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE ON DK...WHO HAVE HELPED ME THROUGH MY CHALLANGES...WITH WHAT FOOD TO BUY FOR SASHA...AND NOW...I AM GETTING READY TO HAVE SASHA GROOMED PROFESSIONALLY FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!!!

Needless to say...I am very nervous...but..I have been reading...and reading...and I am finally ready...at least I think I'm ready...LOL...to get her a summer cut..and I hope that I will be able to tell that she is my girlL..after they cut off her beautiful coat!!

Hunter is 14 months old and she weighs 51 lbs. I feed her Canidae All Life Stages and I was feeding her 3 cups a day. Wellllll the vet informed me Hunter was a little "plump" - that was about 4 months ago and said I needed to cut her down to 2 cups a day. I cut her down gradually and she went from 53 to 51lbs in a month and has stayed at 51 since. I took her back to the vet for her heartworm pills and talked to her about her weight and cutting down her food. She said that she was definately on the right track and was happy at her current weight and even only being 2 lbs she said that makes a big difference because she is at a healthy weight now for her height and frame. Oh and I did cut down on her cookies so I am sure that helped lol

Charlie is 18 months and only 42 lb, little girl. She is much more built like a poodle. She is now on Wellness, and she eats about 2 &1/2 cups of them a day. Her trainer said that recomended amount on the back of the bag is way too much amount.
She has been 42lb for about 7 or 8 months now, and eventhough she is slim and little, she is not starving. If I feed her more than that, often she would lose interested in them and will not eat any more anyway.

Hi Lindsay - here is my two cents.
TOTW is an all life stages food (like Fromm, which I feed to my Peri). Now that Seamus is over a year, I think it is completely normal that he is slowing down his eating habits. You may want to reduce it just slightly.
For instance, my Peri is a 14 month old mini doodle. She is supposed to have about 2 cups/day of Fromm. After she hit 1 year old and the hot weather hit (could be the combination), she stopped finishing all of her meals. We have reduced her food to 3/4 c 2x per day, for 1 1/2 total. She gets a few treats here and there, but I think she is at the perfect weight. She is lean, but not too lean. And as my vet has told me and everyone knows, it is better they stay on the lean side. I would consider just trimming it down maybe to 1 3/4 c 2x per day or something like that.
