Ok, so here is the latest drama.  Poor Boomer gets sopping wet whenever he drinks from his bowl.  Aside from drippin all over the floor and leaving wet spots all over my lap, The bigger issue is how badly his beard smells.  It takes forever to dry and without fail he drinks again and starts the cycle all over again.  His beard never gets a chance to dry until the morning after he has slep!  I am looking for a natural solution.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

Jeri and Boomer!

We don't have wet, smelly beard problems either...Maybe coz Penny wipes her face on the couch when she walks by, such good manners!
Boomer rings the bell!

I was taking you seriously! LOL!
Don't we have polite doodles!!!
Yes, Starlit is a couch cushion wiper. She burrows her nose and heaves off the cushions which fly through the air.

I think I will go back to working on the " towel hanging low on the wall training"
Yeah, Penny does that too!
Angus too!
We keep Gus's beard short (about 3/4 inch) but his does get a bit stanky sometimes. I just try to dry it off if I notice it is really wet...I take a papertowel and rub it really hard - he loves it! haha. This does help keep the smell at bay. I also got the some of the deodarizing wipes for dogs at the pet store. Those work well too.
Just what is it you guys feed your dogs that their beards get so smelly? Even when Penny comes back from her weekly trip to doggy day care, and she's covered in dirt and dog slobber from the 30 other dogs she's been playing with, she smells like toast...weird I know, but cool!
Turns out that doodle beards may actually have a real purpose - they can catch bugs. The other night, there was some bug flying around in the house so Lola tried to grab it. Looked liked she did so I'm asking her to drop it but she is looking as confused as I was horrified. I grab her mouth and try to open her jaw when I feel under her jaw, the bug got caught in it. It was pretty funny!!
We too keep Tori's beard-ess (my new term for the 'female' beard) cut shorter... BUT I remember there being talk about this before. AND... there is a bowl for water drinking that actually keeps their face dry. I saw it in a Fosters and Smith or is it Smith & Fosters catalog - that the dogs can actually spin this wheel with their tongue and lap up water... I will try and find a link to it and post it... but you may be able to google it... good luck!
Wow, this is almost sounding like we need one of those water bottles they use in cages. The kind you use for bunnies, hamsters and such. We lick the little ball and a drop comes out. My mommy has bought me two of those no spill, no drip bowls. Looking down at them it looks like a narrow toilet bowl. Sort of funnel like. But, I still manage to come up dripping!!!!! And, I can still get my tennis ball in it!
I do have those Lixit water bottles I use in the crates. Calla uses hers, Luca doesn't. Then again, Luca usually doesn't eat when I'm not home and Calla does. The water bottles are fine though and I like knowing there is always water available to the dogs. There's also a similar spigot attachment for outside and though I bought it, I never put it on yet. Often the dogs drink from the faucet when I'm doing something with it or from a bowl I keep outside. Most people don't have water bottles for crates I guess.
