When you went to meet and choose your puppy were you able to actually sit with the puppies and play with them in their gated off area? I have always assumed that we would be able to play with the puppies and sit with them. Is this the correct assumption?

I am not sure how the process actually works as we were the last on the list for the litter, and thus had no choice whatsoever. I can say however, that we love London to bits, and like most AB dog owners, we think he is the BEST dog in the world. When we met London he ran over to us, smelled a bit, and then went and jumped into a muddy puddle in Julie's front yard. Yep, he is amazing. We kind of stood their paralyzed thinking "what have we gotten ourselves into?" Once we got him home, we were just mad for him. I think it is like any other important person/pet in your life: once you get them you cannot imagine your life without them.

I think the puppy you get will be the best puppy for you. With that being said, we are so excited for you!! Good luck!!
when we were there, Shelly took us to the backyard where puppies were gated, told us which puppies might be good fit for us (based on the application we filled out), then she went inside the house and gave us some private time to play with puppies.
I personally don't think the temperament result matters to me much, because no matter which puppy you bring home, you'll love her/him to pieces in no time!
We were able to spend an hour with the puppies, and Julie gave us lots of information on their temperment tests and personaliities. When we first arrived they were tired out because Joanie had just picked out her puppy, but being able to spend a longer time we were able to see them after a brief nap...they acted totally different! Let Julie know what you are looking for in your puppy, and she will give you great advice. Luxie is exactly what she described, and she fits into our family great. I loved spending time with all the puppies....you'll want them all!
Hi Karina,
They had the puppies in an enclosed play yard, and we were able to sit down with them and get acquainted. Toby actually chose us! While sitting quietly off to the side, he patiently watched us pick up several of his litter mates. Then he came up to my husband and very gently but firmly put his pinky finger in his mouth and tugged on it, as though to say, "C'mon, let's go home, dad!' It was so cute/adorable. He's the best dog we have EVER had! :)

The best dog we ever had before Toby was an Akita mix. We went to see all the pups, and after saying our hello's to several of them, it was Kuma who went to my son and it was very obvious that he really wanted Ryan to take him home. I think dogs have a good instinct for who will be a good match for their needs/personality. :)
Thank you all so much for the insight! We keep wondering how it all goes and how we will make a decision. We have moved up the list from pick #6 to #4, so we have even more puppies to choose from! 24 days and counting!!
Of course! That's another reason why I asked. It's always nice to have some details!!!
When we went to pick out our puppy, they were all in the back in a pen on the grass. We had one hour to make a decision. We were able spend that time with the puppies and asking questions before making our choice. There was enough time and space that we could take the ones we were considering to another area to see them separate from the litter. Keep in mind their behavior can vary a lot depending on the time of day, how hot it is, whether they're tired or hungry, sleeping, napping, eating, etc. So it's good if you can get more than just one visit before picking. But sometimes that's not possible, so it's helpful to get the breeder's input from their experience and observations of the litter. Good luck!
I asked about this. Shellie told me it can take up to an hour. I think you will be able to sit and play with them as I was able to do that and I wasn't even choosing. I like that you are able to choose at 8 weeks as most breeders make you choose at 5-6 weeks.
Also....Shellie also mentioned that it can be pretty unpredictable regarding which pup people will choose. I like this because they don't make you commit to male or female etc. You can change your mind when you meet them to take them home. How can you predict which one you will want early or by the sex?
