All Life Stages Question

Hi!

I am wondering if puppies need to eat more than recommended on the back of All LIfe Stages foods or if I should follow the recommendations on the bag? Because it's not a puppy specific food, I want to make sure I'm feeding her enough. (I'm using Fromm, by the way!)

That's a good question. Some of the ALS foods have puppy feeding guidelines along with adult guidelines. I take it the Fromm formula you're feeding does not?

No it doesn't. It just says the guidelines by LBS :(

I'm using the Salmon a la Veg, by the way... I looked at the website and it was of no help. Anyone else feed Salmon a la Veg to a pup?? Thanks again for the help!

Canidae makes an ALS food, and they give feeding guidelines for adults vs puppies. According to them, puppies up to 6 months of age require double the amount of adult dogs.

Hi Gill - My recommendation would be to feed the puppy the recommended daily dosage, but two or three feedings a day. My puppies, when young (2-4 months) ate 3 times a day. Then I cut back to 2 times a day and they continue with that feeding schedule. Do not leave their food out after feeding. If they don't eat it all, put it away until the next scheduled feeding. You can tell pretty quickly if you need to cut down the amount.

I personally gave my Peri (mini doodle) probably 1.5x the amount, but now that I think of it, I totally should have asked the company. I would email or call Fromm as Nancy suggests.

Hi again! Well I called Fromm this morning and she said to feed the recommended amount on the bag. I am a little weary of this, and may choose to use the Fromm Puppy Formula (Gold) instead.. and then switch to the Four Star formulas. I love the Fromm brand (and hope my little Maizey does too!). For anyone who is feeding the Four Star formula to their pups, the rep at Fromm ensured me that the amounts on the bag are adequate for puppy growth and development. Hope this helps anyone else out there!

Good - glad I didn't overfeed Peri. I just did it slightly above if she acted really ravenous (or if she had been to daycare, dogpark, etc...). Now that she is 15 months, I feed her slightly BELOW the recommendation. I feel like she is at her right weight.

BTW Gill, I fed Peri the 4 Star the whole time....
