It's funny.... When we first saw Tori's picture from the breeder, I was a bit disappointed, as I wanted more color in her face and body... the breeder gave us very detailed updates on her changes and growth, yet still when she arrived, she was very dark.  I don't think she lightened much at all - except, what used to be a copper color on her face and paws - has turned to a more off white..... BUT - I just LOVE her coloring now... next time will had more 'color' to our pack, but for now, I'll just keep her (mostly) black!

Questions are GOOD! - LOL Her coat is soft almost reminds me of angora, but yes she does shed a bit... mostly only with the season changes and never on clothes or furniture, just as little dust-bunny type floaters on the floors. OH YES!!!! Tori has had many a haircut.. some so bad I shiver thinking about them, some made me cry for days too. But I am now SOOOO happy with our groomer. She understands that I like her hair long and really does a great job... she's actually due for another this week. It's been so hot here recently... I think I may go a bit shorter than usual - but NOT shaved. There are a few pictures on my page of the shorter cuts she had... but no, her colors don't really come out more, if anything less... especially when her eyebrows get cut - it loses the white-ish there. sometimes her beard may lighten, but I think that's more from the bath than the cut - lol. I toy with the idea of getting a mostly white aussiedoodle next time to contrast her, but every time I "stalk" our 'breeder-friend', I switch to whatever colors she seems to have - it's an addiction, you know! - LOL
Shelly - She is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! I just want to pat her and run my hands over her beautiful coat!!!
She is so pretty Shelly. Her coat stayed so much the same. The black is sho dark and shiney!
Thank you BOTH! - Sometimes I just sit and play with her ears. I twist and run them through my fingers... it actually is quite calming - to BOTH of us - LOL
Haha! Another ear twister?! I thought I was the only one. You know how they tell you to touch your dogs ears and give them a treat to get them used to having their ears examined? My dogs are so used to have their ears played with they think it's just another session of ear love when they go to the vet. I love my pups ears! Especially my poodles long ears!
Tori is beautiful! In the second picture I can just see her right eye-how gorgeous~
Thank you!!! I think so - now - However, at first I was a bit disappointed on how much black she had... but I TRULY just LOVE it now!!! I also LOVE how the white comes up her paws, across her chest and then down the other side. I have to try and get a picture of her butt... she reminds me of a white tailed deer (but She just got her hair cut, to most it wouldn't look like it - I keep it longer-so I have to wait until it grows again a bit more).
She is really beautiful, and her coloring is so unique. What color were her parents?
Thank you! Her mom was an australian shepherd - I think a merle, and her dad was a golden colored poodle.. I actually never saw her parents in "person" - only pictures on line... but I am sure you have heard THAT story! LOL
She is gorgeous!! I read further on the comments and saw that you said she's an australian shepherd. I love their coloring and markings, and I think she's a wonderful combination of both parents.

Was she all one color and then gradually she changed? Or did you see hints of the white and tan colors, but were overshadowed by her black? The reason I ask, is I'm seeing a few white hairs popping up on Gatsby. And even RED on the fur next to the pads of his paws. He's a lab and poodle, and I'm just wondering if that's all I'm going to see in color change, or if it'll increase over time. Not that you might know the answer to my questions...;) Just thinking out loud!
Hi Rachel! Thank yo so much for your compliments of Tori! Tori was basically tri-colored or as I have heard called 'phantom' (still not sure of the difference myself) since we got her... but her white-ish markings were more copper toned when she was a puppy... there are a few pictures of her as a puppy on my profile page. she has had and still does have about 6 pieces of hair that are 'gray' on her upper back and back by the top of her hips... but mostly I would say she was tri colored from a pup. It's so hard to tell with these doodles, what will happen to their coats, bu one thing's almost for certain with ALL of them.... the 'coat change' (when they blow their puppy coat to their adult coat) is NOT fun!

Gorgeous!! He has the coloring and pattern of the St. John's Water Dog, the breed (now extinct) that was the source of the first Golden Retrievers and Labs!
