Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We are looking for a vacation spot, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennesee, that would be fun to take our two doodles to visit. Nothing fancy, just dog friendly and relaxing. We are located in South Florida so everything is North of us. We are hoping that a local person can suggest a fun place to visit. We are not familiar with the area

and need some suggestions.....

Thank you,

Well, there is Myrtle Beach, SC, and Hatteras Island, NC -( On The Southern Outer Banks Of Dare County ...
Dare County's Southern Outer Banks Resort Beaches.
Attractions - History - Weather - Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

A good place to start is with this website. We found hotels that are pet friendly on it. Also provides local pet friendly information.

Check out this discussion on here. Lots of good info. Search for "Dog Friendly Places" on DK and you will probably find more. I know there is one discussion in particular about the East Coast and one of the beaches. Maybe it was the Outer Banks, I just can't recall and gotta run out this morning so don't have time to search for it but I know it is on here. Might even be in this discussion but this one is pretty lengthly so I didn't look all the way through it. Dog Friendly.com as Joe says is usually my first stop if I can't find it here on DK for when we are planning to travel. Good Luck. Have a great trip.

We live in the Charlotte area and just took our family (including 4 month old doodle) camping in the Mt Piscagh campground...She absolutely LOVED camping and hiking...added bonus was sleepng next to Mama in the sleeping bag instead of a crate!
I just love the mountains in East Tennessee - don't stay in Gatlinburg (too busy and touristy) - I like Townsend or another part of the Smokies. There are lots of pet-friendly cabins to stay in, the hiking is beautiful, the doods would love it. I would just google "Townsend cabins" or go to VRBO or something. Look at "Cades Cove" also.

I second this suggestion! I lived in upper east TN every summer through college and it's a wonderful area.
My family spends a great deal of our summer in Tennessee and South Carolina. South Carolina is very dog friendly. All of the state beaches allow leashed dogs. Ours spent a week on Edisto Island in June romping in the ocean. We often go to Edisto or Hunting Island. I have heard wonderful things about Isle of Palms which is just outside of Charleston. I love Charleston and Savannah. I'm not sure about the dog rules for Isle of Palms since mine haven't been on that beach. We usually camp and go into Charleston or Savannah. We have stayed at Norris Lake in TN for years. I adore eastern TN. The mountains are gorgeous! One note about the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, dogs are NOT allowed on the trails. They are allowed along the roadway and on 2 specific trails by the visitor centers. We take our dogs with us into the park, but only when we're traveling by car and staying near the car, not when we're hiking. I love this park. It is wonderful. They dogs aren't allowed on the trails because of the wildlife in the area from what I understand.
Yes, you are right. There are some good trails that are not technically in the national park though - I just need to ask my dad, who goes there often.
Wow, thank you to everyone for their excellent suggestions. I am looking into all and hope to find a great spot to take the two doodles on vacation with us !
