Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I just bought a new SUV. Had a smaller sportier car, but it was time for an update.  All kids are grown and out of the house, no DH, so it's only me and the dogs ( doodle and Yorkie most often the only ones in the car).  I could have bought a a smaller car probably $6-7,000 cheaper, better gas milage, better looking but felt I just had to by an SUV for Tucker- you know- more comfort, safer, dog appropriate.  Did anyone else buy their doodle an SUV or similar situation?  Hope I'm not the only one!

How did I miss this post??? I'm so glad you posted this picture. I was trying to figure out how to secure my dogs in the back with the seats down, this is the answer!
Ann. Petsmart has buckle straps that clip into the cargo ties that are usually on the floor or the sides of an SUV or van type vehicle. Then the strap just clips to the car harness just like a leash. In our van there are also cargo ties down in the seat right beside where the seatbelt buckles are on the seat bottom. It is much easier to have these straps and just leave them in vs having to pull the seatbelt harness out everytime. I'll go see if I can find them on the Petsmart site and come back with a link.

Here is the link: (We use the Easy Rider Car harness mentioned on the right side of this page).

I'm confused here - clip onto the cargo tie down, then the other end into the seat bellt....but what hooks on to the dog?
No, one end clips to the cargo tie hook and the other end hooks to a ring on the dogs car harness (not the seat belt). You don't have to use the seat belt at all. The end that hooks to their car harness is just like the hook on the end of a leash. The straps are adjustable so you can give the dog a little freedom if you like (as Sophie likes to be on the floor) or you can tighten it up so they are held more in one spot. So, if you leave these installed in the car, you just put the car harness on the dog, sort of like a regular dog harness (only sturdier), then you just take them to the car, pick up the strap and hook it just like a leash. Much easier than pulling out the shoulder strap and putting it through the harness and buckling it.
Thanks for the info Sheri!!
That is such a cute pic!!!!!
I did!!! Upgraded from cheap and sensible VW Golf to Toyota RAV4, all because my two labradoodles didn't have enough room in the back!!
no, but I bought two doodles for my SUV !!! What else was I going to put in the back of that huge car?????

I traded in my acura tsx for the rdx, a small suv. My Cooper loves it! Glad I wasn't the only one who did this:)
me too :)
So cute! Eva! I would have done the same thing!
doodles are the perfect excuse to drive a gas-guzzling SUV :)
