I apologize if this has been discussed before; I did a quick search and did not see anything. Bailey is currently on Acana Grassland and also has done very well on the Acana Pacifica. He is recovering from surgery and is not eating like he should. I wanted to add a bit of canned food to his regular kibble, but have never paid any attention to which canned foods were better. I don't mind if there is oatmeal or potato in the food, but would like to mimic his kibble as close as possible. I guess that would mean a lamb and/or fish based food.

Bailey has always eaten with gusto, so this is not like him not to eat. I don't want to create a problem by adding canned and then later him refusing to eat without it. I am heading to the store tonight or tomorrow to get some cans, but wanted to check here before I went out. Of course the vet suggested that I give him the ID canned food, which while he eats that, I hate the food and it makes the worst poops I have ever seen!!!

There are quite a few good ones out there - our Quinn lost his appetite on one of his seizure medications, and I was adding a lot of canned food to his kibble for a while. It didn't bother his stomach at all. Taste of the Wild makes a canned fish formula and I think it's grain free; I know EVO's canned foods are grain free, but I'm not sure they have a lamb or fish option. Wherever you're buying the Acana will have plenty of good options, though. And I wouldn't worry about getting him too hooked on it... better to have him eating now. Once he gets his appetite back you can wean him off the cans and he'll be fine - Quinn is back to eating dry food with gusto now that he's off that medication.

Good luck!
Beth - Fromm just came out with grain-free canned food. You could give that a try. But I see they only have beef, chicken or pork. Would chicken work? I think as long as you stick with a good food, it should be okay with his stomach. Don't do the ID!!! You are soooo right!

Is Bailey okay from surgery?
Wellness also has a grain-free canned line, and so does Nature's Variety (Instinct). Just a couple of more options.
Oh nice! That's definitely what I'd go with.
Wellness, Before The Grain, Fromm, Nature's Variety, Evenger's

Before The Grain and Nature's variety have the largest protein selection.
