UPDATE:  I just posted the video.  If you have a weak stomach you may not want to watch.

For the past few months, on occasion while Guinness is "peeing" he will turn his head around and attempt to drink it.  I know, it's disgusting which is why I haven't posted earlier.  It had been only on occasion, so I didn't worry that much.  I did mention it to my Vet on his last visit, and after she was able to stopped laughing hysterically, she told me she had never heard of it before.  She suggested we tape it because it would go over great on YouTube.  From that reaction, I decided I shouldn't worry too much.  Well it's been getting way more frequent.  He could easily bring this act to Cirque du Solell.  Tonight he did it right at the start of his "peeing" and I reached down and turned his head away.  He stopped going, and we came in.  Within five minutes of getting inside the house, he peed on the floor.  Has anyone heard of this before?  He has plenty of water to drink, so it isn't that.  I'm at a total loss.  You'd have to see it to believe it.  I need to start bringing the Flip camera with me when I take them out to go potty.  It's so bizarre...does it ever stop being "interesting" with Doodles?

At first I giggled at the picture in my head, but then the first thing I thought of was a UTI too... maybe he got a secondary infection, not detected by a urinalysis? Didn't you say he was peeing in your house on another post (or was that someone else - going back to check).. Oh poor Jane... (and Guinness) can we ever have a month of worry-free pet issues?
:(
I'll be 'looking in' to see how he's doing!
Just checked again, Jane... I think it was Nancy (Ned & Clancy)... sorry
Please Jane, TAPE THIS!... not so I can ROFLMAO, but so that we can have more information on how to help poor Guinness. And then when we all get up off the floor, we'll do our best to help Guiness. ;-)
I will, Clark. This one really has me stumped. The first couple of times I thought it was pretty funny, but now I'm thinking there's something going on here that I just don't understand.
You know what they used to say...Kids SAY the darndest things! Well, I guess dogs can DO the darndest things. Hopefully it's just some quirky behavior you can train him to stop doing and not something physical.
Ok try to picture this - husband's uncle hunts and he has a few Beagles that he takes hunting. About a month ago he called us laughing hysterically to come over and see his new dog. It was a 1 year old male Beagle and said to be a wonderful hunting dog with ADDITIONAL talents. The dog will run around the yard like crazy then mid-run skids to a stop and stands on its front legs and pee's - while it is peeing standing on its front legs it is trying to lick the pee running down with its head between its front legs! I have NEVER laughed so hard in my life!

All laughing aside their vet told them that sometimes it means they have a UTI but in the Beagles case it wasn't a UTI its just a wacko dog!
Bizarre indeed! I've always been afraid of smaller dogs or puppies accidentally getting rained on by Rosco or drinking his pee when they walk under him or sniff him at the wrong time!
So, by popular demand I posted a video of Guinness's "trick". This is what he's doing every time now. Obviously, I usually stop him "mid stream", but I let him at it this morning so I could capture this on film. I'm wondering what the neighbors though of me filming this. They're probably on the phone right now calling each other. After seeing it, I'd love any additional thoughts you might have. Thanks, and I'm sorry if I spoiled your lunch.
I saw it, but didn't leave a comment because I just didn't know what to say. I know you're concerned that there's something bothering him that's causing this. The fact that the vet laughed makes me feel better about it, though, I hope it does you, too.
Thanks for sharing! Poor baby... he looks like something is bothering him... Tori sometimes turns her head like that after being newly groomed and she gets irritated after peeing/pooping.
I agree - it is like something is bothering him. I am happy the vet laughed, that probably means it is not something serious. Maybe just a phase? Or maybe he is sore? I would have thought infection too, but I see that has been narrowed out. Keep us posted!
It does look like something is bothering him- burning maybe? Did he just get his hair trimmed or any cuts or anything?

Maybe he just learned a new trick and is thrilled with what he can do!
