Allie is turning 1 next month. I would love your recommendations on what to switch her to. Right now she is eating Innova puppy but with the recent buy out I am concerned with going with the Innova adult food. She has done really well with the Innova puppy so if you know of something similar that would be great. One side note, I would be going with Fromm. I have seen many recommendations that it is a great kibble, but I have looked everywhere in Memphis and can not find it. I asked at one of the upper end pet stores and they said they used to carry it but they did not sell it so they quit carrying it. Thanks is advance.

I forgot to answer your question about transitioning slowly. You don't have to when switching foods, especially after a dog is used to eating a variety of foods and rotating among them often. But for a dog first coming off puppy food and going to a completely different formula, (Fromm) it might help her digestive system adjust more easily to do it over a week's time as we discussed above.
But if you're going to a grain-free food, the dog's system has to make an adjustment which normally takes a few days. If you transitioned slowly, she'd still be getting grains in the old food the whole time, so there's really no point. When going from a food that contains grains to one that's grain-free, it's a faster adjustment just to switch them cold-turkey. Hope that makes sense.
Go straight to Fromm. We fed Peri Fromm since she was 9 weeks old....

As for grain vs. no grain, Peri has always liked Fromm and it "sits well" with her. It is a good value for the level of quality and I don't see a need to change. If I ever run into issues, I will try grain-free food.
I've talked to All About Pets and they don't have it. I just bought it a week ago at the Hollywood Feed by me, if Collierville does not have it I bet they would order it since the other one carries it.
I just remembered that there is a Holleywood feed in Germantown which is very close to where I work!! I just called and they carry it! Phew.
BTW, Hollywood has samples if you want to test flavoors. I got some of the chicken last week and they had other flavor samples on order.
good to know, thanks.
Leigh - I use Orijen for Swayze too, but mainly for morning snack. I have gone over to the dark side and started the homecooking - sort of - that is, I pay Gracie's mom, Tammy, and she makes Swayze's dinners 2 weeks at a time. They are fabulous and he loves them. She is doing this as a home business. I keep saying that I am going to start cooking myself, but this is so convenient, and I am very confident that she is knowledgeable and gets the protien/veggie/carb ratio correct. If you are interested, give me a call, and I will give you her telephone number.
That is too funny. I just emailed her and she said that Swayze stayed over. She had a picture of them on facebook. Memphis is WAYYY too small. Hope all is well with you.
You are so right - Memphis is too small - got to behave!! I got tickled when I saw how many points you already have on doodlekisses !! It is hard to believe Allie is a year old. She's a beautiful dog and much bigger than Swayze at that age.
Update::::: I switched to Fromm chicken yesterday and Allie LOVES it. She has never finished a bowl of food at one sitting and now she does. Thank you everyone for you suggestions and especially Karen, thank you for patiently explaining everything to the "ignorant one". Whew that is a relief. I was so nervous!
We were all "ignorant" at some point; now we pass on what we've learned! No thanks necessary, you will do the same for the next person! :D
Oops- also glad to hear Allie likes her new food! That's major!
