Seda is just 5 months old.  Her upper canine teeth are starting to come in (I can see the white buds) and the puppy canine teeth are still there.  They do not feel particularly loose.  Does anyone have experience with teething issues.  When do I get concerned that both teeth are trying to fill the same space?

I wouldn't worry. The baby teeth should just fall out one day. If you get adult teeth next to the baby teeth then have the vet look at it. But the teeth buds next to the baby teeth are not unusual,. At least, both my dogs had this. Then you start seeing little teeth lying about, although they must swallow some of them.
I am not sure I was clear enough. She has lost all of her puppy teeth except the canines on the top. The bottom puppy canines are out. On the top she has puppy canine AND the beginnings of the adult canines. I thought the puppy teeth had to fall out for the adult ones to come in?
Harlow's did the same thing eventually the adult teeth should push out the baby teeth. If not the vet can give them a quick pull.
Same with Spud. Sadly for my arms he had BOTH sets for awhile. Teeth Teeth, just full of TEETH. He eventually lost them and no problems with crooked teeth. Do they even have braces for dogs. Oh My
I read that they DO have braces and appliances for dogs! OMG I read that the canines come in at 6-7 months, Seda is 5. Then I read that if the adult teeth come in while the baby teeth are still there there will be bite problems, and you have to have the puppy teeth pulled. The part they don't say is when you are supposed to go to the vet. At $50.00 a visit, and with two dogs, I don't need to be running in there every ten minutes!! Thanks for all the comments, guys. I feel better. I am just going to look at them every day and keep playing tug-of-war with toys. Her incisors and molars are perfect and her bite is just like it is supposed to be. Yea!
I would give her hard things to chew on like nylabones as well as real ones.
Thanks, Nancy, she has a nylabone and some old real bones that Webber has cleaned up, but interestingly, she isn't much a chewer. She will pull on a toy with Webber. Maybe if I get her a juicy new bone she will be more interested. Last night she and Webber were playing tug-of-war and one of her teeth came loose and she choked on it...spit it across the room
Not sure about your vet, but I would be able to just give them a call and ask them what I should do. They normally if at all possible don't have me come in unless there is something to be really concerned about.
Tara had the same issue too. Two sets of upper canines for quite a while. I was concerned and thinking about a vet visit when it all resolved on its own. Sounds like it is pretty normal.

By the way, I worked for an orthodontist many years ago (prior to doggie braces) who put human style braces on a friend's Doberman. They didn't last long!!
OMG That is so FUNNY. Thanks for the information, Ricki. That makes me less concerned. I can't remember Webber having two sets of teeth..I think his baby teeth came out before the new ones came in.

I've been searching around on DK today to see if others had issues with two sets of canines at the same time.  My vet told me that if Kona's baby teeth arent out by March 29th (his scheduled neutering at exactly 6 months old), then she would pull them while he is under.  But she made me nervous when she said "you don't want him to have his adult teeth come in before the baby teeth are out because that can cause problems.  Well....that was a month ago, and now it came true!  I was going to call her to see if she needed to pull them before his neuter visit.  But now I'm not quite as worried if Tara was in the same boat and her bite is still OK.  How long did she have both baby and adult teeth?

I wouldn't worry either until she is much older. Cooper's did that and I took him to the Vet at about 6 months old and he said to wait a couple of months and see if they don't come out on their own. His finally came out one right after another while he was playing with a rope toy in the back yard. His new teeth finally pushed them out. If she hasn't been spayed, they can pull them when she is under anesthesia for that and it is very easy to do.
