Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have my dogs vaccinated for leptospirosis. My vet had a dog die from it a year or two ago, so when I asked her about it a couple of years ago she agreed it was a good idea. A breeder just posed this on another forum. It's about a 16 week old puppy she had sold to a family at 8 weeks , who had been extremely ill recently.
"Contacted it right in this woman's back yard. She lives in the city, has a fenced in backyard, but has many squirrels and wildlife there too.
Louie is on two different antibiotics, has to have titers done now to
check his kidneys and is going to be a close watch for a few weeks
still. Something to consider whether or not having your puppies
vaccinated for Lepto..."

Ahhh. As if there was not enough. So sorry to hear about the puppy. That is sad and scary. I recently checked my records and it does not say a thing about Lepto.
Thanks for posting. I have decided to get Peri vaccinated for this next month.
We have our shots scheduled next month, I am definately going to check this out, I didn't see anything on our records about it in the past either. I wonder how common it actually is?
My vet's office says they have seen a huge increase in cases over the past two years, all dogs living in suburban neighborhoods and not hunting dogs or dogs who are out in the woods, etc. They had 10 cases last year, and prior to that did not see a case from one year to the next.
I just asked my new Vet about this for Seda and she said they are not routinely giving Lepto to their dogs. The vaccine has a high side effect profile and they haven't seen any cases. Webber's Vet insisted he have the vaccine. It is difficult to know what to do about this. I don't want to put anything into a puppy that isn't absolutely necessary and I also don't want her to get Lepto.
Supposedly, the newer lepto vaccines have fewer side effects. The info from my vet said they give it in two separate shots; maybe that's to lessen the side-effects?
That looks like the billing code for a vaccination cocktail to me- distemper, parvo, but maybe the "L" on the end stands for lepto, I don't know.
When I used to do the cocktails, my vet billed it as DHPP, no "L" in it, lol.
Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus
HeeHee- Great minds once again think alike. See below.
Getting scary.
Here we go:
DA2PPL4 = Distemper, Adenovirus 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis (Leptospira canicola, L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. pomona, L. grippotyphosa) ..
So it looks like Maddy did get the lepto vaccine, then, if that was from a vet bill.
Looked up DHPP:
distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza
