has anyone relocated with their doodle to a country with a mandatory rabies quarantine?
this is  very much a distant possibility but my doggie is the #1 worry.
i looked at the regs for bringing a dog into japan and it is min 12 days quartantine at the airport and you take c@are of ydour dog ie visit, feed and walk the kenneled dog.  sounds miserable.

I know nothing except that I would be 'camping' out at that airport until it was released. What about returning to the US?
Me too...camping and having anxiety attack during the fwishts. maybe Dh could work into the relocation package a private jet to Japan and special in home quartantine before we leave the u.s...ha ha I wish.
I think the return is easier.
Oh, wow.... That's a long time..... :-(
There are things you can do to bypass quarantine, each country has a list of requirements. Most follow the same standards- Have your dog vaccinated for rabies then have blood pulled 120 days later and mailed to the University of KY to have them run a titer to determine that your dog has adequate antibodies, apply topical flea treatment and then 30 days later you can enter... This may not be the exact protocol for entry into Japan but it is probably pretty close.

12 days isnt that long anyway
Oh, thank you. That is interesting info. I'll have to look into it further.

Yesterday, I was researching and posting from my phone--so somewhat limited. And I was getting pretty discouraged. I cannot imagine giving Porter to someone for two years (and there are wonderful candidates), and I cannot imagine him surviving a 12+ day quarantine without having psychological ramifications. He's a pretty sensitive guy...scared of his own shadow at times.

This is all hypothetical for now, but I want to have my ducks in order in case that changes.
