I just ordered a kindle for myself. Even though I just purged last fall, the books have gotten out of control again and it looks like a crazy librarian lives there! I ordered a kindle with a little leather case that will give me the feel of holding a book (and the case even has a built-in book light). I think that this device will let me be in denial about needing reading glasses for at least another year. Can't see it? Make the font bigger!!!

I am a  kindle and e-reader newbie. I also have NO idea when the kindle will get here (it's on backorder) but I'm excited and of course want to start planning the fun NOW. :-).

Hints, suggestions, etc are needed and appreciated!!

I'm a Nook person myself, but I love the concept of e-books with whatever type reader one uses. I chose the Nook (well actually DH choose it for my b-day), but you are able to lend some of the books to others from the Nook, as well as my library has a program where I can download several thousand choices for up to 2 weeks. haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure what all their selection is. I like the keypad on the Kindle better (at least by the look of it, haven't gotten to physically try it). Anyway, think you will love the whole e-reader thing. Particularly on vacation ..... don't have to pack several books, just your reader.
I have had my Kindle for several months now (Kindle 2...of course bought it just before the price decrease) and really like it a lot. The only thing I miss about a "real" book is being able to leaf back through the pages if I'm looking for a part to reread to refresh my memory, etc.
I got my Kindle about 4 months ago for the same reason. Way too many books piling up. As much as I didn't think I would like not holding a book in my hands, I have gotten used to it. I love finishing a book at 10pm and simply downloading another one. Last weekend, I went to Amazon, com and found all the free kindle books (tons) and downloaded quite a few.I now need a better way to organize it on the Kindle itself! Like I said, I'm still a newbie.
I really think you're going to love it. I have the IPad but it's the same basic idea. I've been a reading lunatic on this vacation. The ability to adjust the font size is awesome, and I live downloading the first couple chapters to see if I'll like the book.
I have had a Nook since last Christmas and absolutely LOVE it!! Never looked back to real books. I think the feel of it is easier than a book. It's way better in bed...LOL...meaning easier. You can prop it sideways with it's case and then just press button to turn pages. And for anyone worried about taking it to beach, you can either buy a special clear "raincoat" case for it....or some people have just put it in a ziploc bag and read right through it. If any other Nookies out there interested in trying to lend.....we could let each other know which books we have that are available for it :-) I have never tried the lending.
I have a Kindle Dx. I've had i for a year and this summer I am just getting into i. It's fabulous to be able to have so many books available and as someone said you can get one at 10 pm in a flash. What kind of case did you get. I have a feeling we'll all be using pad computers like the Ipad one day which will combine the features of several devices. Can't wait. Yes, I guess I can.
I have a Kindle I got from my husband for Christmas. I love it. It didn't take long to get used to. I have a case and a light that attaches. The screen is so easy to read and love that you can change the fonts. One thing I like about the Nook is that you can share ebooks. I have a few friends with Kindles and that would be great. Maybe in the future it will. I just saw the case with the light attached.. might get that in the future...lol Enjoy !!
I got the first generation Kindle the first week they came out so that has been a few years now. I really liked it but later found minor inconveniences with it such as the location of the page turning bar. It was easy to just bump it when you didn't want to and changing pages. I understand the second generation has a larger screen and the bars have been relocated. The one thing I didn't like was that it wasn't in color and didn't have a light for late night reading. I now have the iPad and love it ten times more. The display is gorgeous. It has color and the page is lit up. You also can increase the font size! Amazon and Apple have an agreement to share the books so I just log into my Amazon account and can upload all my Kindle books to my iPad. You have the choice of sending them to Kindle, iPhone, iTouch or iPad. Really cool! I sent my daughter my Kindle to try out and she just uses my account and buys books which she designates for delivery to the Kindle. I have a beautiful aftermarket blue leather case but it doesn't have a light in it. I don't think there was a option for one for my model. I have to use one of those little clip on lights which is a pain. Until the iPad I was in love with my Kindle!!
