Sorry, this doesn't have anything to do with Doodles other than one Doodle mom feeling enraged!! Some of you may have heard me mention, in my previous posts, my neighbor who always has had Dachshunds and always named them Emily. The current dog Emily3 was adopted from a rescue more than 2 years ago. She came from a difficult situation and we were all so happy that she had found a great forever home. The neighbor made Emily3 clothes and walked her all the time. Tara and I and DH walked with them as a small pack to get the dogs used to being around other dogs and people, etc. We are not actually friends but just kind of run into each other while walking and chat and walk together.

WELL, today DH was walking Tara and ran into the neighbor but no Emily. When asked where Emily was she replied that Emily had been adopted out.  DH of course was stunned! When asked why she said it was because her husband had gotten new hearing aids and when Emily barked it HURT HIS EARS!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!

I don't want to do anything that will get me arrested so I thought telling you about it might help release some of my rage!!!

It is just so sad...poor little Emily...starting all over again. I just hope that her new home is truly forever and that they appreciate and really LOVE her!!

Thanks for listening!!!

Oh, and one more thing. She told DH that her husband just got a new job and if he isn't home enough she is going to get ANOTHER DOG!!!!!! (Raging now!!)

Gee, you might think they could have trained Emily 3 to bark less, turn down the hearing aides, or something.
Oh, they had plenty of other options in my opinion. Money is not an issue in this case so they could have chosen to hire a trainer to work with Emily3. Or even the worst case scenario, which I do NOT advocate in any way would have been debarking her. Some OTHER neighbors had their dog debarked because it is an outside dog who barks all night and animal control received many complaints about it. I do actually have SOME neighbors who are really great dog people, contrary to how it sounds today!! :>)
It IS awful!! It is a surgical procudure in which the dog's vocal cords are cut. Apparently some states have banned it. It is very controversial but some proponents feel that it is a viable option for people in situations where they could be forced to give up their dog due to barking disturbances. It is, of course purely for the convenience of the person and robs the dog of one of their primary means of communication.
It never ceases to amaze me what people do with dogs. I hope any future rescue agency asks her for the reason she gave up Emily and stops her from "rescuing" again. Very sad!
If Emily3 was adopted from a legitimate rescue, these people may be in violation of their adoption contract. You can't get arrested for notifiying the rescue that these people have rehomed Emily. At the very least, they will probably not be allowed to adopt any more dogs from that particular organization.
Clearly these people are not fit dog owners; they view dogs as exchangable and replaceable. This one doesn't fit? Return it for a different model. Making clothes for your dog doesn't show that you love her.
How sad for Emily. I don't blame you for being enraged.
I'll have to see what I can find out about Emily3's adoption. Although I am not really looking forward to running into her again. I just want to snub her!!
Now that I think about it, maybe having the same name for all your dogs is telling. You don't have to view them as individuals with all that entails, It's just the generic dog.
I was wondering the same thing. If it is evidence of not emotionally attaching to the dog but rather seeing her as generic or as Nancy said an "accessory". Something similar to my calling all my purses "purse"! I don't name each one.
Hmm. I guess this is hard for me to imagine because I don't know what could make me find a new home for my dogs. Unless something major financially happened (still would try to figure out a way) OR if our lives were at risk because of a dog (??).
The main thing that makes me really mad about this is that she is just going to get another dog. Why will this one work and not Emily3? Wow, most dogs actually bark.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There should be a database OF NON-ADOPTABLE HOMES. This list should be shared between states and available to all shelters, online.
Many rescues do maintain such a list and share it. Not enough, though.
Keep the dog...get rid of the husband!!! ugh! Some people will never get "it" right..sad : (
