Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have heard and read on many websites that the curlier the coat, the less the shedding.  I have also read that the amount of curl has nothing to do with the amount of shedding.

I would like a non-scientific poll:  Does your curly coated doodle shed?  Please tell us the generation (f1, f1b, f2, etc), age, and how curly your doodle is.

I'll start: my dog Webster is an f2 chocolate goldendoodle.  He is 1 1/2 yrs old and has a fairly curly coat.  I would classify him as a very light shedder.  If I haven't brushed him for a couple weeks (I know, I know, shame on me!), I will get a couple brushfulls of hair.  I see an occasional doodle tumbleweed in the corners of my wood floors.  I do not see any hair on  clothes or furniture.

Here is Webster at 5-6 weeks old and now - it was evident that he would be curly and he definitely is.

I'd love to hear from others about the relation of curly coats and the amount of shedding!

What a great idea for a post.... Tori has very soft, fly-away hair If I blow n her back, I can easily separate the hair along her spine... almost the texture of angora. It is almost krimped-like - not really curly. She is an F-1 ~ australian shepherdxpoodle. She does NOT shed on furniture or clothes, but I do find dust-bunny hair balls on my floors from time to time... but definitely beats any shedding that I've had with dogs in the past. Her hair a bit longer:

Tori's hair looks a lot like one of Webster's brothers (my cousin has him). He has the same type hair and my cousin had kept it long - he looked like a major "surfer dude". She just had him clipped into a "setter" cut - and he's gorgeous! Looks like a black irish setter. He sheds a little but nothing compared to a golden retriever.
Hmm.. I never heard of a setter cut. what is that? I do have a picture of Tori at her one year old birthday on my profile and she does look exactly like a "surfer-dood" - LOL
Here he is before and after. He hardly looks like a doodle!

Wow... I see exactly what you mean now... yup - lost the doodle - LOL they even shaved the top of his head and his legs. (Do they 'show' him?) It just goes to show you too, how much these doodles are all hair, and underneath they are very fit and trim!
They don't show him but they do live in a rather exclusive neighborhood. Let's just say that he looks like he belongs in the neighborhood now - they went from one extreme to the other!
Aha! Got it! LOL
He really does look like a black Irish Setter.I am reluctant to say it but he looks great. But I always like the setter look, as well as doodles, of course.
Wow! He is beautiful. I would never have guessed doodle. You could have posted one of those discussions like we are having right now wheaton or doodle. Yours would be setter or doodle? I'll bet we all would have been wrong!
Gunner will be 2 next month & sheds A LOT. He really has no curl unless wet & still its minimal. We always say I think they forgot to add the poodle part. He doesn’t shed as much as a golden but much more than any of his doodle friends. We do keep him longer, which of course adds to the shedding.

Awe... Gunner is so handsome! His hair eems to look like tori's. does he shed on clothes if he brushes by you? We keep tori longer all the time too. The few times she got a 'bad haircut' (not from our present groomer), her "poodle" came out.... in fact I was so worried for this cut b/c she was soooo matted, but our groomer worked her magic and got out those tick mats and saved her coat!!! does Gunner mat also?
Gunner is a gorgeous dood!
