Just finished two books by Steig Larsson - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire - not enjoyable reads, but something you just can't put down. I have the third book, but will take a little break before I start that one. Back to reading Paulo Coelho for a little break.
I finished the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this summer and I am taking the break before reading the next one. I agree with you Lynda - not an enjoyable but compelling to finish. I just finished J.D. Robb's latest Death book. I enjoyed it very much. Currently I am reading Iris Johansen's Storm Cycle.
YES! I loved it! Read a big portion of it aloud to Clark on our trip to Canada last week. It's hilarious and interesting and makes me appreciate my life! Can't wait to read Walls' semi-non-fiction book about her grandmother.
I read "Glass Castle" and her book about her grandma- "Half Broke Horses". Both books do make you appreciate your own life and it is surprising that people like Jeanette Walls can make it out of such dysfunction and lead a successful life!
I love historical fiction books! I LOVE to read, but I'm so busy during the school year (I'm a teacher) that I do most of my reading on breaks. This summer I read:
Night
The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott (great love story)
Sing them Home
Every Last One
My Enemy's Cradle
The Postmistress
Angela's Ashes
Angela's Ashes! Do you consider that historical fiction? I suppose that is what it would be called. I was sad that he died. I enjoyed his writing style. And it is amazing the authors like McCourt and Walls not only make it to be successful in life, but realize that other people would appreciate reading about their backgrounds. Did you read Teacher Man by McCourt?
Historical fiction is my favorite genre. Not all of the books on my list are historical fiction. In historical fiction, the setting and time period are what is "real", and the characters are often fiction, while some can be real. I would say that unfortunately for him, McCourt's book was a pretty accurate account of his life.
Angela's Ashes was a great book. I don't know why I didn't read it earlier! I haven't read Teacher Man. Was it good? I saw that the book after Angela's Ashes is called 'Tis. Have you read that one?
Both were great, weren't they? We also like to read aloud and have read several books on our long trips to Utah and Colorado for bike rides. We are usually four people and three of us take turns reading. We decide which book we all want to hear before we leave on a trip and usually get it finished before we get home. (My DH can't read in a car, it makes him carsick.)
I am just finishing "Cutting for Stone" by Abraham Verghese. I love it and I am going to miss the characters when I am finished. For those of you that like long stories, like Pillars, this one starts at infancy and goes to adulthood in the same family.
