Remember our boy Matt?

He was rescued from a kill shelter in Alabama after being seized in an abuse/neglect case.

He was so matted to the skin, ( thus his name..) he could barely move. His muscles had atrophied, his skin was severely infected and he had to endure a painful shavedown. He was flea and tick infested, had a severe case of sarcoptic mange and was also suffering from advanced heartworm.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of too many amazing volunteers to mention, Matt was Doodle Trained to safety and delivered to the loving and determined arms of DRC Carolinas Director Krista Sumlin in North Carolina.

DRC posted a plea for assistance to our DK family. As always and without fail, our Doodle Kisses family answered our call for help and our prayers.

Thanks to all of you, DRC was able to get Matthew all of the necessary vet care and the life-saving heartworm treatment that he so desperately needed.

Today he is living the carefree and pampered life of a most beloved member of the Sumlin family in Charlotte North Carolina.

To all  "DKers" who generously and graciously donated to "Matthews Fund" we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, and for your friendship.

MATTHEW SAYS............."This House Is Clean!.................."

Well folks, sorry I have been MIA lately. I have taken a short leave of absence from the rescue to get some private work done. But I am still keeping up with everyone's business and helping a tad when I can. But I should be back in full force in a few months.

I have some knews today that just couldn't wait and I had to share. Matthew received his last phase of his heartworm treatment today. This included a blood test to see if there were any adult heartworms left in his heart.

I am very proud to say that Matthew is clean as a whistle. He is heartworm free and loving life. Matthew couldn't wait to share the news with everyone.

What has Matthew been up to? Well he has very important duties around the house that he takes care of deligently. In the mornings, he insures my safety by going on lizard patrol around the outside brick walls of the house. Making sure that all lizards are doing properly and not imposing upon my daily duties.

And if you think that is a hard days work well I am here to tell you Matthew also works a second shift. In the evenings when it gets dark he then switches to toad patrol. Ensuring the safety and welfare of all those who lives here, Matthew bravely checks for intruding frogs around the house.

What a man. I never felt so safe in my life.

You would not believe from his "before pictures" that he is now 4 pounds OVERWEIGHT. I guess I did a little too good of a job putting weight on Matthew. Now I am having to cut his rations and get him on the treadmill. Unfortunately lizard and frog patrol do not require a cardio workout.

All is well on the farm with regards to everyone else.

Just wanted to let you know I am still alive and kickin' and can't wait to be back here in full force and posting everyday and talking to all you folks.

Matthew says, "Have a heart, but don't have worms.........."

Thank you all for your love and support of this great rescue. I am honored to be a part of this family.

Krista

HERE ARE PICTURES OF MATT TODAY

Matthew says: "Life is Good!..even if I DO have a bad haircut . I can pick up 23 radio stations with my tail and it certainly comes in handy when I help momma clean the house. Just call me "Feather Duster" or better yet "Swifter".....Yeah...I like that. "

Matthew says: " Like my new doo?..Yeah?...Really?.....Well I feel like a darn Pomeranian."

Lizard Patrol on the wellhouse..................Matthew says: "I'm doing my best to be "doodley" and "manly" in spite of the fact that this haircut makes me look like one of the Gabor sisters. Next I'll be wearing a Bob Mackie gown and singing showtunes with Liza."......

Matthew says: "Momma!..I love you!...I'm so grateful that you saved me!....but WHY MOMMA?...Why did that groomer go "clipper happy" on my coif?"

"Thought I saw a lizard!......Probably scared em half to death with my fro.........."

"Oh I am bashful when you call me Lord Fauntleroy......Hey!......Is that a rock I see over yonder that I can crawl under til my hair grows in?......"

Matthew says: "Here's a raspberry for you ol' heartworms!......And while I'm at it......Here's one for you too groomer!..........."

In the words of one of Krista's  all time favorite movie characters and one of Krista's all time favorite comics........

On behalf of Matthew and all other doodles-in-need ....

THANK YOU DK FAMILY!...We couldn't do what we do without you!

What a wonderful happy life Matt is having now. Krista you are the BEST!!!
Hey, Matthew- come visit us up North here for awhile, where we appreciate chickens less and style more! Your new 'do will look right at home! No lizards or toads, but you can join me on bunny & squirrel patrol! And I'm on a weight reduction program too, so we can suffer together!
Your friend,
Jackdoodle
PS: My mom says that cute uncle of yours is welcome, too!
Oh Matthew, you are one beautiful dood, haircut and all. How sunshiney are your days?
Shhhhh don't tell mom, but you might get some treats by looking pathetic about the fro.....
Oh Matthew...what a gorgeous boy you have become. And your eyes are beautiful to look at. I love that you have found this wonderful well deserved life and that you have found protection, comfort and love. I am sure you give doodle kisses every day! Your pictures are unbelievable. The first ones we ever saw were so haunting for me. I never dreamed that such a neglected doodle could turn out to be so handsome and self confident as you are. Lucky, lucky boy!!! Keep those toads and lizards away!
:) Always good to see you again Matt. Now your heart is full of love and not worms.

Truly, one of my favorite pictures of all time is the one when you meet Krista for the first time. She waited weeks, then all day, then half the night for you to reach her safely. Finally. She ran to the car in her robe and kissed you. Did you know then that forever more she would shower you with kisses--forever? That picture--oh that picture, is worth more than a thousand words. Thanks for stopping in and saying hello especially since you sound very very busy with the toads and all.
Well if that ain't a tear jerker :)~~ Raspberries to you too, Matt.
Krista ....First ....I luv you honey.... You know it!...Second, I want to tell everyone about Matt's little sexual escapade last week....Can I PA-WEESE?
I am pretty sure Matt's physical discomfort (hopefully minimal) is greatly overshadowed by his appreciation of his new home. I think animals are that smart - they just know when someone has saved them. Even if they haven't been rescued, dogs now when they've got it good. If he can run around a chase toads, give you kisses and socialize with humans, that's all he needs. Matt has it good now, thanks to the DRC and you, Krista! This is one of those rescue stories I don't think I will ever forget.
Hi Matthew, Just read your story again, and it made me cry, again. So sad that someone could treat you so badly and so happy that someone loves you and takes such good care of you. Gotta go hug my doodle. Doodle hugs to you and Krista.
okay...I want to hear about Matt's sexual escapade that Jaquie is talking about.........
I would like to remind all parties involved that this is a family friendly website, and any mention of hanky-panky between two different species, particularly if one of them is a chicken, is strictly forbidden.
Oh my, this sounds really crazy now! Matt and Chickens, imagine the cute chickydoodle babies.
