oh no.....tried orijens and back to loose stools!

Well, I bought a 5 pound bag of it last night and decided to try 1/4 cup with the other cup and a half of rice/chicken mixture...voila! Loose poop! just in time for Molly's 4 month check up tomorrow morning. Vet will probably  not be happy. I am not happy. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I seem to remember a couple of posts that mentioned loose stools at first but I can't have that. I'm going back to work this week!!!! Any ideas?

Callie has a few days of loose stools with ANY change. Right now, we're transitioning from regular Orijen to Orijen Red (just trying to rotate proteins and keep Callie interested) and she instantly started having loose stools, even with the 75/25 initial ratio. She did this when we went to regular Orijen too, and after a week or so she was having firm stools. It's called a "transition" for a reason!

Okay, this is what he said: off the flagyl unless we can't get her poop back to normal (which I figured and had already stopped it). Keep her on the rice/chicken until her poops are normal again and then transition her to an adult formula which is less rich. Some dogs can tolerate the high protein and some can't . Suggested Blue chicken, which is what he has his dogs on (who also had loose stools with such high protein). I love this vet, and he's a fabulous diagnostician. I've been with him for 12 years. He said absolutely no on a medicated diet (YAY) so we'll see how it goes. I've never had a puppy that had loose stools so consistently, but I'm hearing that it's not that abnormal

I love your vet for the "absolutely no" on an Rx diet alone!!!
Blue Buffalo is an acceptable food. Please let us know how it goes! They also make a grain-free formula which you may want to try in the future when Molly is older and her digestive system matures.

Thanks Karen. I am confident (with crossed fingers) that molly will grow out of this stage, as she seems (more crossed fingers) to be improving on the frequent peeing and squatting stage which also was (after lots of tests) normal (this far). Hopefully our frequent vet visits will subside in the next few months. I'm back to work this week, so it's going to be okay!!!!! (eventually)

I am definitely hoping that this is the beginning of a calming period. Of course, she hasn't pooped since this morning......we'll see what tomorrow brings. Only crazy dog people can feel good about having discussions about their dog's poop!!!!
