Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm in Nashville, TN and I keep an eye on the possible doodles in area non-rescue shelters.  I have family in Michigan so I keep an eye on that area also.  Here is a labradoodle listed in the Gladwin, Mich shelter.  The fee is $20 + spay/neuter cost.  This boy is young and looks like a treasure.

Have any of the rescues tagged him?  If not, surely a Michigander needs another, even temporary, doodle.  I grew up in Mich & I know we love our dogs :-)

Thanks Jennifer, I will post to the MI Doodles Group, He is adorable, is this a kill shelter?
I sent the link on to Adrianne and Jacquie at the DRC just in case they miss this discussion! Thanks.
Wow he is adorable. Do we know anything about the shelter?
I'm thinking it is a kill shelter - Gladwin is in middle Michigan and I'm assuming this is the county shelter. Most of those shelters do the best that they can but......... I re-read the ad and he's not available until Aug 30 so hopefully we can find someone by that time. I will be in Michigan on Aug 31 but I've got my hands full with school starting and a new puppy, I'm not sure if I can take on a rescue right now.
Hi Jennifer, I am in MI and will try to keep an eye out for this guy, Can you keep me in the loop too if you get any updates? I can't take on a 3rd dog but would love to help in any other way I can... Thanks!!
Rosey, could you contact the shelter for us and see if someone in your area (or you) can pull him?
Yes we are on it! Rosey & Bandit to the rescue!!!
This is an Animal Control kill shelter, and this dog may be in trouble; the "available for adoption" date of 8/31/10 is also the date that he can be euthanized- it simply means the time period for which they must hold him so that an owner can reclaim him expires on that date.
Karen -- Would I be correct in assuming though that if someone is truly interested in adopting, that they should contact the shelter now and won't they keep a list for first come first serve -- Many times these dogs get a lot of attention (although as we know, not always). I know our local County Shelter prefers to get these type dogs in because they know they can get them adopted and get some money as they run solely on money raised through adoptions and tags! It is the hound mixes and bully breeds that normally go down first. Particularly in our part of the state, the County Shelter list is 90% hound mix or Pitt mix.
They will probably not keep a list, but if someone is truly interested in adopting, they should make their interest known, and plan to be there first in line as soon as the shelter opens on the 31st, as it is usually first come, first served. You're correct that if have to euthanize, they will start with the less adoptable dogs. Which also means that adopting or fostering one of these dogs saves two lives. One more empty space in the animal control shelter means one less dog who has to be killed to make room.
Part of the problem for this dog is that from what i can see, this place is in the middle of nowhere.
Yup, I've travelled that stretch of Michigan. Beautiful country but kind of the middle of nowhere - that's why I was concerned about this boy.
In order to best serve these doods in need please in the future make sure to email the listings to adriannedrc@aol.com so she can get them in the rescue system. We are working together now and are contacting the shelter! Fingers Crossed!!
