Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I received a comment today on my guestbook. Here is a copy of what was written:

Another Breeder
How is it that you have come to call your dogs Australian Labradoodles when you dont even own 1 Australian Labradoodle? I noticed this on the Premium Breeders List and find it very unethical.

From: USA

I want to make it clear that I am a proud member of the premium Breeder list, and I also have noticed that they have me down as breeding "Australian" Labradoodles. I have already sent in a request to have this typo error on their part corrected. She assurred me that it would be corrected, but may take some time as they are working on their new website.

Just to make it clear to everyone, I do not have any Australian Labradoodles at this time. And I believe what was unethical in this matter was the fact that the unknown breeder could not leave a name or contact info, so that I could have explained the issue to her directly.

That's unfortunate. S/he may have meant well, but without leaving some contact info, s/he has no way to know if her accusations were correct and ended up unfairly blaming you. Can you make comments on your guest book to clear that up right after "Anonymous'" comment? At least other people looking at the guest book would see the clarification.
Trina i am with Adina on this one...put up a disclaimer so it stops an reocuurence of this type of commenting happening again. and since you are a MEMBER with the Aust. Lab is correcting the typo, i'd send an email to check again it is as well as i would have deleted acomment like that too
In my opinion there are three types of labradoodles and within each of those types there are variations:

F1 and F1b Labradoodles of (either 1/2 lab or 1/4 lab with the rest being poodle)-- The origin of the starting dogs makes no difference. Whether the labs or poodles or labradoodles came from the USA, Germany, Scotland, Labrador Canada, or Australia they are still F1 or F1b labradoodles.

Multigenerational labradoodles These are bred from the above (occasionally an Australian labradoodle is thrown in). Within this type there is a wide variance of different generations and crosses between various generations. Labradoodle breeding, from my outside perspective, has more to do with individual breeder's preferences/program goals than ONE SPECIFIC standard (which is totally cool to me and such a HUGE paradigm shift that AKC snobs just don't get it so they have to chalk it up to a fault in doodle breeding rather than a new way of thinking about what a breeding goal should be. Multigen breeders, however, do have plenty of SIMILAR goals as far as nice, even temperament; low to non shedding coats, etc. But size wise, color-wise, and other more preferential specifics there is variance on.

Australian Labradoodles specify dogs with bloodlines going straight back to Rutland Manor and Tegan Park. However, these dogs are called "Australian labradoodes" even though they have other breeds besides labs or poodles in their formula. The precise formula used to make these lines is not disclosed but RM does state that the Cocker and American Spaniels, Irish Water Spaniel, and poodles were all in the mix. But labs were only used far back in the development of the breed. Sometimes poodles have been and are infused back into the Australian labradoodle -- some of the ALD organizations are trying to come up with protocols and rules on how/when this can be done and still preserve a common goal. It's very confusing to me. But the ALD's are great dogs too. I just happen to like more lab in my doodles. The Australian labradoodle is not truly a "breed" that breeds true yet. It is still in development to a degree by those wanting to take it to that status. SINCE it is not yet a breed yet, then continuing to improve it per each breeder's program goals is still considered the norm and okay.

Oh and some breeders also mix the Australian with their non-Australian multigenerational doodles to widen the breeding pool and offer more variety from which to breed (which I think is a good thing...closed gene pools really can do a number on breed health).

So essentially there is no solid, bullet proof definition except I suppose for the F1 labradoodle which ALWAYS means the offspring of a lab and poodle mating. Once you get into higher generation dogs then it's a matter of knowing what qualities you are looking for and finding a breeder that produces THOSE qualities.
rachel...as my mom used to say, be thankful they're not your family hhahaha

For some reason after having 1 f1 LD and 2 f1 GD's those with prejudices roll off me easily. I call mine Doodles. However, with Max's training in public he's attracting more attention in a POSIITIVE light. I get stopped alot whether it's Max or peanut now, asking questions, amazed how well mannered they are, and questions on temperament with kids , intelligence, etc.rather than on what he is mixed with. :)

I stay out of prejudices of american vs austrailan LD's ...as ALL dogs orginally came from breeding infusions to create ONE particular breed.
the golden retriever is really from an irish setter....hard to believe! as GD's so calm and IrSttrs are like bouncing balls boing boing hahhahaa

Anyone care to open the can of worms on NARS? hahhaha North American Retrievers ----> LD bred to a GD

Rachel there is always someone out there willing to differ ...makes life more interesting at times. hahhaa and gets your brain thinking.
You responded well. I understand your pain, but there is a wonderful quote (and I can't find out who said it) that goes: "What other people think of you is none of your business." hahahaha...I love that!
Don't let it disturb you. The mistake is not yours, it is theirs and I imagine that they would be quite embarrassed to find out that they were wrong in their assessment.
Sharon's site is a great one and I am happy to be a part of it, but I am also having some wrong information displayed. I intend to ask for correction later on, when things calm down for them...but it does not affect my reputation, just that no one can find me! :o)
Hold your head high...you have done nothing wrong and, in fact, you have responded admirably.
