Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I would like to come up with some more permanent pages on DK.  Pages that we can easily direct members to when they ask very commonly asked questions.  It can be specific to groups (like the Food Group, Puppy Madness, Grooming, etc) or general types of questions.

So think about "What did you first wish you knew when you joined the site?" and "To what info do you think members need quick and easy access?"

If, for example, some of these pages work well in certain groups each group can link to those pages and the pages can in turn link back to the groups if members have further questions.

Right now every new member gets a link to this welcome page with BASIC info on using the site: http://www.doodlekisses.com/notes/Welcome_to_Doodle_Kisses!! -- But I'd like to create more than this and have specifics about the doodle experience AND using the site...for those who want more info.

So...shout out your brilliant ideas!

I've added the welcome message with link to the welcome EMAIL all new members get when they join? Do you think people are more or less likely to read that than a comment on their profile page?
That's a tough one. When I joined I didn't realize that I was going to be getting an email (techno challenged) so I didn't find the email until much later. Part of the problem with the welcome note on the profile page is that it is at the bottom and unless you know to scroll down you don't find it either.

I can't remember the exact steps for joining. But, is it possible to direct the person to the New Member section BEFORE they get to set up their profile page? Say they join by setting up their user name and password, then they are immediately directed to the New Member info. (which they read thoroughly and with great enthusiasm). On the New Member info page (at the bottom) there would be a "Set Up Your Page Now" tab or link.

It would be the same steps and information but just changing the order in which people receive them.
I would love that but it isn't possible to change that part of the set-up.
Could we put this question in a message to the last 20 - 25 people who joined and ask them to respond? They would probably know best.
I may try that...but if people don't read their DK messages they won't read this...right? And if they do then they'd read both...
You remind me of an old, Dorothy Parker quote. "You can lead a whore to culture but you can't make her think." There's just so much informing one can do.
OH My Doodles, I can't believe you quoted this--I did a double take to make sure DH was not using the computer. He is full of quotes but this one commonly comes out of his mouth

He is impressed though that you knew who quoted this phrase. Now he asks are you related :)
Not that I know of--ha, didn't even occur to me to whom when you asked. We old timers, not meaning him of course, pick up a lot over the years.
Gee, I live a sheltered life. I thought it was horse and water........ I am trying the new one on dh today!!!
It is a play on the word "horticulture", Miss Sheltered One.
Oh my ever so genteel upbringing!!! ha This is what happens when you work with kids under the age of 11 - we never hear the really good stuff.
PS -DH loved it!
This is an ancient quote. Probably as old as me : )
