Tara started vomiting large amounts of blood this morning. We rushed her to the vet and he believes that she ruptured a blood vessel when she vomited (with no blood) earlier in the day.

He said he has seen this before. Right now we are in the monitoring/watch mode and she is home. He did not give her any medication for it as she had stopped vomiting by the time we got her to him.  We don't know if the bleeding has stopped but it seems to have slowed enough to not cause her to vomited it out as she did earlier. Unless it is going the other way now and is going to come out the other end.

We need to keep her very still the next few days to a week (wish us luck with that!!). She really doesn't seem to feel bad and the bleeding seems to be the only symptom. But apparently it could rupture again with over-exertion or eating rough food.

Right now she is sleeping on the couch and I am spending most of my time watching her-making sure she is still breathing!!! My imagination is running wild!!

Tara and DH and I could really use any kind thoughts you can send toward us or heaven!! Thanks!

Oh my gosh how scary, all the best!
Pawsitive thoughts being sent your way!!

Is it possible she could she have chewed a stick and sswollowed a piece that scratched her inside? That is always my biggest fear with Charli. Did the vet have any clue as why this happened?
How scary that must have been, and waiting to know everything is OK is always stressful. Keep us updated, I hope it all turns out okay.

All positive and prayerful thoughts going to sweet little Tara.............
TARA UPDATE:Thanks so much everyone for your prayers, kind thoughts and well wishes for us. It has been about 9 hours now since the big bleeding episode and she has not vomited since then. We just gave her a little very overcooked rice and boiled chicken which she ate eagerly.

Adrianne, the doctor was not really specific about the actual cause. He said that just vomiting can cause a blood vessel in the lower cardiac sphincter (where the stomach and esophagus meet) to burst. However, she was quite a puker as a puppy and nothing like this ever happened so I question, as you do, if she may have swallowed something that caused a small wound and then when she threw up it tore open.

I worry about sticks and other things getting swallowed and perforating her insides too!! That was the first thing I thought of! It seems like her little mouth is always working on something. I don't know how many times a day I have to do a mouth check on her!!

Anyhow so far so good!! And thanks again!!
We are all keeping our paws crossed for a full and speedy recovery! Ned and Clancy
I pray that Tara will be healed of this bleeding, that the cause will be correctly diagnosed and the symptoms never recur. I pray also for your peace as you care for your dear doodle.
Be well Tara. Good thoughts and prayers on the way.
Oh NO! Ricki!!! I am so sorry! Of course I am sending you all positive thoughts!!! I assume they did an
x-ray? This happened to Tori in November.... she didnt vomit, but had diarrhea and it was very bloody... took her to the ER (of course it was on a Saturday evening). We thought her pancreatitis was acting up again (she got that when she ate pork strips that were in the garbage) at that time she vomited blood. Thank goodness it wasn't, but what they did find was a teeny tiny screw that she had swallowed that caused havoc with her system, I know how worried you are. That was the longest night, and I didn't sleep either just thinking about the what ifs... she stayed overnight and it had passed, so we were VERY lucky. I am praying for a speedy recovery for poor Tara! Sending you both many hugs!!! I will keep watching to see how she is! Hope you have a somewhat peaceful night!
We're sending our thoughts and prayers Tara's way. The fact that she doesn't seem to feel bad sounds like a positive sign!
Doodle hugs and kisses to Tara from Lucy and Sophie. So hope she is feeling much better this morning!
