Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We rescued a dog (Murphy) from the Town Shelter back in March, and I had been taking him to a vet close by.  They called him a terrier mix, like the Shelter said.

Today I took him to a vet I had used a few years ago for my birds (I feel more comfortable with him), and he looked at Murphy and said, "Oh boy, what do we have here?  What kind of dog are you Murphy, I think you are a designer dog, some kind of doodle.  I think a small Labradoodle".

My question, can a Labradoodle be on the small side.  He is 23/24 pounds and my husband says about 15 inches high to his shoulders.  We cant get an accurate measurement, he wiggles too much when the tapemeasure comes out.

Thank you for listening.

I don't think a schnoodle, only because of the color of his nose. To my knowledge, schnauzers only carry for black pigment, and so even if the poodle parent had the recessive gene for the liver or rose colored nose, I believe the offsprings' noses would still be black.
But those ears are not from a poodle/retriever cross, either. I would be curious to see the test results, too.
I definitely think your guy has some Terrier in there.. my guess would be Norfolk Terrier.

I was the one who did the DNA test on my doodle Harlow! Yes, I did get it on Ebay, so check that out first! The test I ordered is a cheek swab test called Wisdom Panel Insights. Just Google it and you will find lots of info on their website. The test retails for about $80, but I found mine for $30! It would be fun to see the results, so let us know if you go through with it or ask me if you have any questions!
I second what Leigh said. My Veruca is a mini Goldendoodle F1b. Her Mom was a medium sized Goldendoodle, her Dad was a mini poodle. She's under 30lbs. I know you asked about Labradoodles, but they can have the same kind of mix.
I don't think he is a labradoodle because of the ears, but he certainly could be a poodle mix or Wheaton Terrier mix. He is the cutest dog. I can see why you rescued him. He is just precious.
And here is another one to throw into the discussion, I met a YorkiPoo at the pet store about a month ago - this little cutie looks just like him.
What a cutie!! I would be really curious to do the DNA test for sure! I had to Google Wheaton/Poodle mixes and I had to laugh they call them "Whoodles" I thought that was a really cute name.

Ok, I finally did the test and the results are in........drum roll please........They say Murphy is…..……

Bichon Frise Mix crossed with Russell Terrier

He appears to be a “pure breed” Russell on one side and a mix with Bichon Frise on the other side.

They said the 5 next best breed matches for the mixed ancestry could be:
1. Yorkshire Terrier 8.07%
2. Poodle 7.18%
3. Labrador Retriever 2.69%
4. Boston Terrier 1.25%
5. German Pincher 1.21%

Personality wise he fits into the profile for the Bichon and the Russell, but height and weight wise, he is taller and heavier (and vet says he is a good weight, not fat or skinny).

I am thrilled with the results, but a little disappointed that there was not more poodle in him, at least no Great Dane right?

Thanks all for all your thoughts.
