The dogs have been in their kennels more then usual today -- it's pouring rain.  Every time we walk them outside they end up soaked and so they go in their kennels to dry.  Unfortunately with a puppy.. by the time she dries she needs to go again.  Cycle continues.

Tonight both dogs went outside I dried feet and they were in the living room.. I noticed Violet about to squat and whisked her outside.  She came in, 10 minutes later went to squat --- and thats when I started to worry.  She squatted and whimpered.  No pee.

I took her outside, she squatted several times, every five minutes or so...  not apparently getting relief.  I called my husband to come outside, starting to panic.  I went inside and called the emergency vet.

She's in route there now with my husband.  (Our three kids are in bed, so one of us had to stay here.)

Now... I wait.

My husband is certain he saw her physically pee this afternoon.

Trying not to worry.  Hoping it's nothing and I overreacted.

The vet (perhaps tech?) that I spoke with said it could be an infection.  That might explain why we had so many accidents yesterday... I know when humans get bladder infections they pee like crazy.  It certainly feels like Violet needed to go every 30 minutes - 1 hour yesterday.

Anyway, I am just rambling.  Trying to make the time past faster... and I needed to vent my concerns.

Thank you ladies. Interestingly my vet was really ... disappointed? The emergency vet suggested stones in a dog this young, she said that was practically unheard of. (The emergency vet did not catch the vaginitis.. I need to ask my husband if they physically looked in her labia) Also interesting is she recommended putting Violet on 1/4 of a tablet of a chewable Vitamin C (250mg) once a day... she said this will help increase the acidity of her urine and help her flush bacteria. One of her own dogs had this issue, so she was very familiar with it.

She said not to be mad at Violet, that this problem makes house training MUCH harder... and it's not her fault. The constant irritation makes it much harder for her to tell when she has to go. (I was never mad at her -- have you seen her face? How could I be mad? I know accidents happen.) It is nice to know on those days.. when I walk her outside and she goes... and then 30 minutes later has peed inside it's a medical reason.

Poor baby, the puss inside the labia and the skin looked inflamed made me so uncomfortable - as a woman - I asked if there was anything I could do to help make her more comfortable. Any creams or washes that would help ... the said just try to wipe it off with a wet rag, and I could keep the hair short that grows on the area to let the area air out as much as possible. Hopefully the antibiotic will work fast and help give her some comfort... she's on them for the next two weeks -- so that makes three weeks of antibiotics total.

Hopefully my experience will help others. I know its not bad, or life threatening, hopefully her first heat will see this issue gone. I hate her being in discomfort, though. I know what to look for now - her little labia were not noticeably bad from the outside, but what I thought was just the hair held together by pee was actually crusted from the puss. Moving the labia apart revealed the obvious signs of infection. This is something I need to look for so I can catch it early, until she has her first heat.

I know I've said it before but I really appreciate you ladies -- the comfort, shared experience and support. It helps a lot when you're worried about your sweet little Doodle.
