Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone,

I have been toying with this question for sometime (about 6 months actually) about our Daisy. Right now Daisy is just days away from being 11 months old. She is 65lbs and sleeping....she sleeps a lot. I knew she would sleep a lot when she was a little puppy but by now I thought she would be less likely to be sleeping all day. DH jogs with her at a nice slow pace in the mornings for about 30 minutes, she actually trots much like the dogs in the show rings. When she comes in she plops down (and I mean plops) for about 10 minutes and then gets up, eats and then follows me around until we leave for work. When we get to work she runs around, greats everyone and may play for about 30 minutes...the rest of the day she sleeps, it is 2:30, I am looking at her sleeping. I have spoken with our Vet, her heart sounds normal, she came through her spay with flying colors (they did blood work and no red flags came up). She just sleeps so much. When she plays she is non stop. When we take her to the lake she swims for 1-1/2 non stop. When we play chuck-it in the backyard she plays with 2 balls and runs the entire time dropping one to fetch the other.

Oh yes one more thing, she has never ever had a wet nose...also told normal. We have had two different vets because I just wanted to be sure.

Are there any other doodles out there with the same or similar story? I really need to be assured in some way.

Thanks,

Lisa

IMO you have absolutely nothing to worry about. My Gracie Doodle is now 3 years old 72 lbs and is a big Standard Goldendoodle. She is the most laid back Doodle there ever was. But...present the tennis ball, ring the door bell or have visitors and she is up and at 'em. I don't let the tennis balls in the house, otherwise I would be constantly living with a wet ball shoved in my crotch!! She is relentless and won't give up until you go outside and throw the ball. Gracie will never tire of swimming, chuck-it throwing or running when out in the back country. I fear that she will keel over from a heart attack because she chases the ball so much...it is non-stop. But, once in the house she just lays around and looks like one big flopazoid! Yesterday my DH left early for golf and I had taken a Tylenol PM to get a good nights sleep. I got up rather late that morning because I had no place to go or be. Gracie Doodle stayed in bed and did not get up until 2:15 PM!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSS She had a huge outing on Saturday with a 1 1/2 hr drive each way to a Doodle Romp and then was invited to a ranch to meet two Sproodles and have dinner and so we didn't get home until 11:00 PM. Gracie walked straight in the house and to our bed and was out like a light before we could even lock the back door! Believe me...there is absolutely nothing wrong with your Doodle and like every one is saying...consider yourself lucky...I sure do!
Nancie, I laughed out loud at the ball in the crotch reference. Fudge has the same problem.
Me too! That slimy, wet, disgusting ball! When my son was little, I could never get dressed to go anywhere until the very last minute because he was a "big time spitter". I can't tell you how often I was at work and realized that there was a trail of spit-up down my back (from holding him up on my shoulder)...I'm sure I smelled awful (formula stinks). Now I'm back to not getting dressed until right before I leave because I have the slime "ball" stains all over my legs, and yes the crotch area as well.
This sounds exactly like my Fudge. She will be two on Christmas Day and acts the same way. I hate sending her to daycare because no one believes me that she gets tired. She could sleep all day, but when she plays, she plays very hard and does not seem to be able to stop on her own and quit. Our other dog will just stop and plop down, but Fudge will go as long as you are doing something, but then is exhausted for a long time. She would sleep until 10 each day, if we did not have Vern and is ready for bed around 7:30 pm. Some days or nights, I just take her back and put her on our bed and turn the fan on, and she is content to go to sleep. (can you say spoiled?) When I used to go to the dog park, I never stayed longer than 30 minutes, because she gets tired, but instead of stopping on her own, she gets cranky and usually bad behavior would escalate at this point. I am sure people think I am weird when I say she is getting tired, because her behavior does not always match what I am saying, but as soon as we get home, she is asleep within minutes.
Funny, sounds as though we are talking about Phoebe, too. If not engaged, she sleeps--not a big bone chewer either. That said, she is always ready for our long walks--sometimes three miles-- or to play in the yard or merely to run like a doodle inside fetching one of her toys. Enjoy the exhuberance and the calm as it seems we have perfect doodle temperaments.
Well our Oliver is like that, he is a very calm dog. He gets up with hubby to be walked at about 7am, and then has his breakfast, and then he goes back to sleep in his crate in our room for at least another hour till I wake up. I know that he sleeps a lot during the day, cause I see him do it, lol...He loves to play and he plays hard, but then he flops down and naps. After dinner he plays with our other dog or us for a while, but by 9 pm, he is sleeping. I wake him at 11 to take him out and then it is nitey nite, he goes in his crate in our room, and goes right to sleep with his "babies". his unstuffed animals...And so goes our everyday life. He is healthy and happy, weight is good, and eats well, so if your vet says he is ok, I don't think u have to worry...Just enjoy your doodle....
We have two doodles that are very different. One is very active (53 lbs) and trots everywhere she goes and our second (about 65 lbs) is more calm, sleeps more and always drags his two back feet along the floor when he walks. I can always recognize who is coming by the sound. I think he would be a big couch potato if we did not have her. She gets him up and going.
Yup. Hershey gets up at 7am with my husband, goes for a walk, eats breakfast, and then plops into bed with me until I get up.... My husband works from home and she takes up residence on the couch for the morning, gets her lunch and another little walk.... and then sleeps under his desk for pretty much the rest of the day.

By the time I get home at 5 or 6, she's ready to play for a bit, have dinner - and settle down with a nice piece of antler to chew on in front of the tv.

Right now, she's sprawled out across the floor asleep. Unless my husband starts to "wrestle" with her and run her around like a zany puppy - she'll stay right there until we go out for one last potty before bed, and then she'll sleep in our bed, until we both come to bed. Then she sleeps on the floor next to the bed :o)

She's a pretty pampered pup. I think I'd probably sleep all day too if I were her!
Baxter does not sleep at all when we are home unless it is real late at night. He goes and goes and goes. He loves to fetch the ball. He is obsessed! I hope he will start chilling in the not too distant future. Until then we just keep throwing that ball!
THANKS EVERYONE!!!! I feel so much better now.
