I'm looking for a doodle for my family and my husband is morally opposed to buying from a breeder rather than rescuing a dog.  I realize it may be hard to find a rescue doodle, but we are looking for a purebred because of my son's allergies. Does anyone know of any doodles who need a good home or the best place to look?  We are looking for medium sized (the smaller the better).  We'd love to hear of any dogs who need a loving home.

You are in a great place to find a doodle. The Las Vegas group is very active in trying to get doodles out of the shelters and into homes. The person that might be your best contact there is Pat.
Thank you! Your dog is ADORABLE by the way! One of my best friends has a doodle here in Vegas and he is so good with the kids. We love him so much!
Kathy consider visiting two doodle rescue organizations:

IDOG Rescue

and

Doodle Rescue Inc

Both have foster homes throughout the USA and by placing an application with them you will be lined up for the next doodle they have that meets your families needs and is a good match. Also DO consider a standard poodle too...they are 100% guaranteed to be non-shedding. Whereas not all doodles are non-shedding.
Hi my husband does volunteering at the shelter and will let you know the minute he spots one. We got our dog Gump this way. Keep you posted.
Thank you Meg! I'm hoping one shows up. How long did it take to find Gump?
Hi Kathy,
If you go to the Las Vegas Area group and post there, more people in our group will see the post. Pat works with IDOG and is always on the look out for any Doodles who come into the shelters. She and Gina will see the note if you post it there. Good luck and I hope you find a Doodle of your own soon and can come join us for Doodle Fun!
Hi Denice-

I'm so confused by the site.. Did I not post in Las Vegas' group? How do I do that?
You did post in this group.
Kathy -- Please be very careful when selecting the Doodle for your family because of your son's allergies. Although many people "think" that Doodles are hypoallergenic and non-shedding, that is not the case. Depending on the type and severity of your sons allergies a Doodle might work for your family, but there are no guarantees. What you don't want to happen is to bring a dog into your family and then have to re-home it because of the allergies. This would not be fair to either the Doodle or your son. Also, please be sure that you read up on the "coat change" that a Doodle goes through so that you understand that you cannot get a puppy because it is possible that a non-shedding puppy that you son might not be allergic to goes through a coat change that could mean it would become shedding and your son could then be allergic. As Adina mentions a Poodle would be the best option for a family with allergies. All of us who work in rescue applaud your efforts to adopt, but because of your sons allergies you will need to be very careful when rescuing because you don't always know for sure what mix a dog is. There are poodles available in rescue as well, and if you don't shave them they look just like a curly doodle! Best wishes in your search.
Hi-

He actually isn't allergic to dogs. so I'm not too concerned. He does however have a lot of hay fever here in Las Vegas, so I'm trying to choose a dog that has the least amount of hair possible so I'm not overloading him and making his other allergies worse. Thank you for your response!
Hi Kathy,
There are 3 rescue Doodles, 8weeks old in a shelter in Lancaster, Ca. about 3 hrs south of here. They are chocolate and adorable and need to be rescued by Thursday. are you still interested? My husband and I can find a way to get down there if you are. If you go to the "Forum" at the top of the page and go to the discussion 3 Doodles in Lancaster Shelter you can see the photo. You can reach me at my email address ... rimgirl70@yahoo.com. Please let me know.

Thanks, Denice

OK, maybe I need a reality check. I know it's rare to find puppies in a shelter, but would it be ridiculous to expect to find a puppy of a specific color? My wife and I really want a cream (English-style) doodle, but the $2,000+ price for the breeders we've seen just makes it impossible for us right now. (We can certainly afford to take care of a dog, but that kind of money up front would be tough to come up with). Anyhow, what do you guys think? Is it worth signing up on these IDOG or Doodle Rescue adoption pages? Are they going to dislike us because we're so specific and only want puppies (which sort of goes against the whole "rescue" thing?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
