Veruca is very low smell, she's an F1b with a very nice coat, it's almost like human hair.. not super coarse but very shiny and curly.  Violet our F1 is a fluff ball.  She's shockingly soft, her hair is like cotton.

When Violet goes outside to play and comes in she is STINKY.  Doggy BO.  I've read that bathing should really be a weekly thing?  So how do you combat stinky dog smell?   I am hyper sensitive to smells right now and she blows me away when she first comes in.  It seems to go away after a while, the smell is not feces or urine.

So - what causes some dogs to have that "doggy" smell?   What can I do to give myself some relief from the doggy body odor?

She IS on antibiotics and has been for three weeks for Vaginitis.  In my searching I see that yeast problems can happen, but I am not sure what that would smell like?  Are there any visual signs I could look for to make sure it's not yeast?

Possibly her anal glands need expressed. They could be leaking some each time she poos ....... smell is bad. I don't think the smell from a yeast infection in the ears would go away. If it is her anal glads, you can attempt to express them yourself, but if you are sensitive to smells, you probably should just take her to the vet to have it done. Groomers can do it as well.
I have been looking into a "puppy groom" as an introduction to grooming for her. Certainly can't hurt. I hadn't thought of her glands. Thanks for the suggestion!
:) I have no idea why she stinks. You poor woman. I remember being told I should " Go Work For the EPA and Track Scents and Odors" when I was pregnant. That is a tough one to deal with but hopefully it should pass soon
Hah.. yea I feel like that. I walk into the room and I can tell if someones child across the room needs a diaper change. I am specifically sensitive to body odors -- Certainly not a super power I will miss!

I just thought it was strange since our F1b does not seem stinky. They eat the same food, and the F1b is older. I wondered what gives some dogs odor and others not so much?
I'm not pregnant--thank goodness. I don't know why one stinks and not the other. Starlit's breath and face stink. She is a spayed female ( stunk before and after spaying ), Spud is a neutered male and did not stink before or after loosing the danglers. They both eat the same foods! I have even changed foods a few times to see if Miss Stinky stops stinking. NOPE.
The danglers. Could become a new euphemism : )

Heather...believe me...if it were her Anal Glands you would be gagging!!! If it smells fishy or like dead fish or like something crawled up her butt and died...it is ANAL GLANDS. If so, easier to have her vet express them. Normally with a balanced fiber diet and nice not hard but firm poops, it should take care of itself and you should not have to experience it often. Every now and then Gracie gets it bad and it lasts a day or so depending on her poops. It is a very nasty smell!!!!
Hah... Good to know. This isn't gag worthy, more like.. Doggy body odor. Similar to that "wet dog" smell.
Perhaps she rolls in something when she goes outside.
I DO know what you are talking about... sometimes Tori smells sweaty when she comes in from playing, but as she cools down it subsides.. usually it happens when she's about do for a grooming....If it was her anal glands, I think every cat in the neighborhood would be in your yard... anal 'leakage' has a fishy smell. It can be really strong - you'd know it...good luck!
I took both girls to the vet today for shots and a follow up with Violet's vaginitis. Apparently the vaginitis can cause her to be stinky too, so that could be part of it. The vet restated they think it's best to let her go through her first heat cycle before spaying her (Veruca has done that as well). It doesn't appear to be yeast or her anal glands, which were really my big concerns. So if its not the vaginitis maybe the poor girl just has a bit more BO. ;)
