I've heard varying opinions so I wanted to ask here.   We have a male dood now and want to get dood #2.   Initially I was told to get a female but another breeder told me with doodles it doesn't matter so it wouldn't make a difference if we got a male the second time around as well.    Opinions?  Thanks!

See I have the opposite problem, Bandit is soo easy, he bangs (not rings) the bell when he needs to go out. But Rosey gives subtle signs of prancing in circles and panting.. When they are home for a while, like today, 8 hours, Bandit will immediatley go out and do a 3 minute pee. Rosey will wait an hour then go on a walk and do a bunch of little pee's throughout the walk. And Bandit doesn't mark...maybe because he was neutered so young.. he also pees like a girl:) .
We may be odd but we never considered the gender when our dogs joined our family. They were just who/what they were and through fate/or design joined us. Presently, we have 2 girls, Rosie(doodle) and Bindi (doodle wannabe) and 1 boy, Gaston (doodle). The ONLY difference we see is that the girls "look" like girls and GC is all boy. There is nothing at all in their actions that would define them one gender or the other. Nor do they (as dogs) acknowledge each other as one or the other being a boy or a girl. (that's a delicate way of saying there's no funny business going on! LOL) GC has no clue whatsoever that Rosie is a girl. He just treats her 110% as his sister. We also shared our family with two other non-doodles up until this past year (Keegan and Madison) and it was the same experience with them ;).

But I completely agree with what others say....two doodles is a blast and a CONSTANT source of joy and laughter! Best of luck to you Julie :)
Thank you. I just read one of your blog entries (about the car ride to the school). What a sweet story.
Thanks Julie :). That was written shortly after Rosie joined our family. Five months later and it still holds true. They are best buddies :) I wish the same wonderful experience for you .
Echoing others, I just don't think it will matter. We were on the list for a male originally (have a male chihuahua) but there were not enough males in the litter. Breeder called and asked if I would want a female because the person in front of me only wanted a male - I got Peri because of this. I just didn't care. I liked the parents of the litter and trusted my breeder's judgement. Peri is perfect for us. I honestly think she would do well with a male or female doodle next, but she generally plays better with males. She is Lady P after all and loves her suitors :)
I think whatever combo you get, they work it out. Generally, the doods have pretty nice personalities so they get along with other dogs. We have a 9 month old female and got a 2nd 4 month old female and after the first day, which was a little rocky, they started playing and have not stopped. My first little girl has been a little stand offish and started pooping on the deck but we have started Agility and I am making special time for her so hopefully she will get used to this whole new situation. No regrets.
Yeah, it's not like you are getting two female chihuahuas or terriers, LOL!
