Last summer, my really nice Canon digital got ruined while on vacation when Rosey's conditioner spilled in my bag and drowned the camera.  Someone (DH) didn't put it back in its case and just threw it in my bag:(  So I did a lot of research and pricing on the internet and ended up choosing the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020, waterproof, shockproof, perfect for life with 2 puppies right???

So last weekend the camera wouldn't charge.  So I went and bought a new battery, to no avail it wouldn't charge either.  I emailed the Internet Retailer and they told me the best bet was to contact Olympus as they may have a quick fix, or I could send it back to them and they will send it in for me.  So I called Olympus and they said send it in. But I have to fill out a form, give them a CC #, pay for shipping...and WAIT... Before I did that though, I went to Best Buy and had them try to charge it to see if it was just the charger.  But it wouldn't charge they said the camera was defective.  Had I bought it there, they would have just exchanged it for me.  So I emailed the internet retailer and told them the same thing, that was just tonight..so we will see what they say.

So in the meantime, I HAVE NO CAMERA!!  I am missing all of the cute puppy stuff going on!  What would you do, is there an inexpensive option that I can go get as a backup until this is resolved that takes decent quality photos and videos??

No I don't know for sure, I am going to call them back again tomorrow. I will probably buy an inexpensive one so I have something in the interim...
Just a thought but some camera stores have "rental equipment" . . . A friend that has a spare? That's why I keep my older cameras--just in case someone ever needs something to get them by!!!!
We gave our really old ones to the kids...so who knows where they are now. I will check a local camera store, maybe they have used one at a good price..good idea!
Yes, there are camera stores that rent cameras, lenses and other equipment. You might try that. I also got an e-mail from Nikon today introducing their new "Outlet" store that is on-line. They have refurbished cameras. You might try that. I think in order to get a decent camera for not much money it would be the Nikon Coolpix, Casio Elixm, Canon Shure Shot or something like that. The ones that are small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. But even those cost upwards to $200 or more. Usually your best place to get one is Costco.
did you have to give a CC#? Was it covered under warranty? I just bought the thing 2 months ago...
Cell phone!
mine new Android fancy phone takes crappy pics. I am sure you can tell on our page which is which. Plus I want to do video, mailing off the Olympus tomorrow but will probably go get something for the interim... I mean really how can DK go on without the "Adventures of Rosey & Bandit"
My husband has the Droid phone and it takes great pictures. Not sure if it is the same as the Android. But he is able to go into the settings and change the ISO and a few other settings. I can't even do that with my iPhone and that is a real bummer. Just changing the ISO can make a huge difference in the photo.
I'm so sorry to hear about the problems with your camera! Just so happens that I was researching point and shoot cameras this morning because sometimes a DLSR with a huge lens is too cumbersome to carry around. I want something that I can always keep in my purse/pocket. I've decided to buy the "Canon Powershot SD940 IS." It's a great camera for the price. ($159.00)
I have a Canon digital Elph, I think SD 600 something. It's a bunch of years old now but I love it. Good pictures and it fits in a pocket. Sometimes taking the dSLR is too much.
Does it do video?
I Think that is what I had before the Olympus that drowned in doggie conditioner... I really liked that camera!
