The rain is done...........so we took the dogs out for an overdue romp in the park, and when we got there who was there............horses!!!! Summer and Giada had so much fun running with those horses. Talk about training with distractions, this was the ultimate! We always see the horses in the street, but this was the first time the dogs saw them up close and off leash at the park. It was so awesome.......wish I would have had my camera!! It was a very nice way to shake our cabin fever :)
I'm so glad your experience with horses was with horses not inclined to kick (could really do some damage), and already dog friendly. I have a couple of horses of my own, and am about to get my first doodle in a week. My first thought when I read your story was that it sounded like great fun if everyone was happy about it, but a little part of me worried that the "running with those horses" could've meant chasing the horses. ...reading further I didn't really think so....
One of my visions/hopes for the future is that my doodle will later be able to come along on some trail rides with me. Dogs can be good for flushing out the scary stuff for the more timid horses when they run just a little ahead. I had a trainer once who always took his dogs along when getting a horse used to trail riding. I have a beagle now who will start out going with me, but often gets distracted and runs around the property on his own, going his own way (following his nose). I'd love to have a dog that would stick close by the whole way. Maybe some horse people out there can give me some helpful suggestions for getting my new doodle girl ready for some of these adventures when she's older....so glad you had a great day after all the rain!
I would think if you introduce the puppy to the horses as soon as you get her this would just be her life and "no big deal". I'm sure with daily interaction witht he horses, she will be going on hikes with you when she's old enough.......how fun :)
