Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was browsing a breeder's website and saw that she is now breeding "Double Doodles."  Hmmm wonder what that is.  Well it's a "North American Retriever" crossed with a poodle.  Now I learned from this site last week (ever educational) that a North American Retriever is a lab/golden cross.  So is this a new trend?  What do people know abour this and what do people think?

Oh, you might be interested in seeing the blog from one of our Double Doodles in training as a service dog...complete with videos. It is really great to show what can be done with these dogs. Eva's dog, Bailey, is a sibling to the three posted here, and in her most recent video it shows Bailey playing with his brother (another sibling from this litter in training as a service dog, all NARs):

That's awesome!
What beautiful dogs and great video-training link. I love how responsive the dog in the video is, and his yawn was exactly the way my dog, Porter, yawns...with the slow unroll of the tongue. Not an important trait, but so cute imo ;-)

Okay, my husband just laughed at me and told me it is obvious that Porter is my first dog, since that is how "all dogs yawn."
Thanks Melissa, it is really fun to watch this pup's training come along. (I agree...they are so cute with that type of yawn, usually matched with a funny sound of some sort too.)
That last picture looks like how our rescue, Clancy might have looked when younger.
Well that is quite a compliment! Thank you!

They are simply ADORABLE-do they seem a bit more manageable than Golden Doodles?  My Golden Doodle, Hope is 10mos old and has been a terror!

Sharee & Hope

We met a lady just today that is on the waiting list for a liter of Double Doodles that are to be born in the new couple of weeks to come home around Christmas sometime!
I think that Darby's mom (Hollie Slattery) just got a Double Doodle as well.
Rouser is a double doodle - we were looking for a very lovable, calm dog that we could train for therapy work. He's awesome and we're still on track for therapy, but probably in another year or two. He does bring joy to everyone he meets and he is INCREDIBLY good around babies and toddlers, but he still is too much of a class clown to be a reliable therapy dog (in our minds). The trainers say he would pass the test, but we want him to be a little more calm before we head down this path.

As I like to say, Rouser has the appetite of a lab, the sweetness of a golden, and the smarts of a poodle. Other than that, I think of him as my great big lovable mutt.
Hi!
I also am a breeder and breed Double Doodles on occasion. I find they are very wonderful for service dogs and of course family pets. The Double Doodle or North American Retriever seems to mature and calm down just a little earlier than a labradoodle. They are as allergy friendly. We have 2 litters of mediums coming in December. One litter wil be second generation and the other third. Some of these puppies have already been reserved for service dogs. We are very anxious to meet these lovely puppies!
I have an 8 week old doodle.  The breeder told us she was a Double doodle.  The Dam: Abigail is an F1 English Cream Goldendoodle (I am thinking 1/2 golden retriever and  1/2 poodle) and The Sire: Mudd is an F1B Labradoodle  (I am thinking 1/2 lab and 1/2 poodle)  So I guess my little Texten is 1/2 poodle and 1/4 lab and 1/4 golden retriever.  I have yet to find anyone else with a double doodle.  I am interested in learning more about this breed.  I know we can't get papers on her yet (guess she is to new.....IDK)
