...it's so good to know I am not the only one with a bad trip to the groomers!

 

When I took Magic into Petsmart - I had just finished 'combing' him for 2 hours...and they promissed he would be kept fluffy....well, for goodness sake - you can see his skin now!! It is almost winter, and the poor little guy is naked...you can even see his little winky ...and I had no idea he had such skinny legs - plus they shaved his nose RAW. OK...so after I calmed down I did a search on how to groom....and found you guys - yahoo! So much fabulous info here, that I am sure when his hair grows back I will be able to give grooming a try....already ordered the Les Pooches brush...

Cynthia - I was cautious about PetSmart grooming. However, I have great success by always using the same groomer and supplying a picture of the cut I want. I use a picture of Gracie ! :)

BTW, I can't beat the PetSmart price (in my area - DC) for 2 dogs every 8 weeks.

I think your probably have a groomer that cares.....and listens!! Keep that groomer...you are very lucky to have her!!

I have a 12 week old puppy and already had a bad grooming experience. He was also shaved (despite my request NOT to) Thankfully hair grows fast! I think I will try to take on the task myself also, good luck to you and let us know how it goes! :)

thanks for the welcome! I will let you know how it goes....in about 8 weeks when he has hair again LOL!! Sure I'm brave now, but it might be another story when I am faced with a pair of sharp scissors and a wiggling dog - but I really want to give it a try!!

It probably has a lot to do with the age. 12 weeks is a young pup! lots of action. I bet you will have better luck closer to one year old.

Ya, I should have known better....all I saw was shaved dogs when I looked through the window! Not sure why they bothered to come out and run the comb through Magic's hair and tell me he was good. Oh well...lesson learned!

There is an agreement you sign and if you check the box for "don't shave" they can't. If they didn't offer it to you, they are breaking PetSmart rules. Sad. I think you have a bad PetSmart. I've never seen a shaved dog at ours.

Also, I think it's more of a people thing than a PetSmart thing. In a metro area there are more groomers to compete for jobs.
