My pup (20 months old) needs something to chew on and keep him busy when I just can't throw one more ball!

I have seen those dog bones in the pet store - the ones that look like they have been roasted - but they look a little scary! Any suggestions for something that is healthy, safe...and will keep him busy for a while??

thanks....

I don't know how I managed without you people!!!!! This is so awesome.....got antlers....bones are in boiling....don't think we have bully bones here cuz I couldn't find them. This is a good day!
thanks everyone...doodle owners rock...
:O)
LOL- they aren't "bully bones"...bully sticks look kind of like Salami sticks or dried beef tendon (another good choice) but they are actually bull penis. LOL You buy them in pet supply stores.
Cynthia, most of this information is here in our Food Group discussions. You can do a search for just about any question you may have, or just to get info. Click on "Back to Food Group Discussions" above, then click on "View All" at the bottom, and you can enter any search term...bones, bully sticks, etc. for a wealth of info gathered over the past two years.
wow. these are GOOD prices too! thanks.
We're fans of the antler pantry too - they're awesome and I love how clean and durable the antlers are. The split antlers do not last as long though.
Frannie - how long do they last for you? We haven't tried them yet - I think Allie would like them SO much more than the whole antlers.
Callie isn't a super heavy chewer and it lasted her about 3 weeks. Bixby Foster Doodle was a heavy chewer and the split antlers lasted him about 7 days...and that's just because I would take it away from him. I think he would have stayed up all night chewing it. It does splinter off a little but the splinters are pretty soft. Whatever is on the inside is magical to dogs.
Oh - on either kind of antler if Allie loses interest in them soak them in chicken broth for a few hours and freeze overnight. It turns into a whole new toy for them. (or just bring a doggie friend over and give them the antler - that always seems to renew Callie's interest!!!!)
ooh!!! Good idea! Thanks Frannie!
Great tip!!
Bully Sticks seem to keep Casper busy for a while - especially the braided ones!
The braided ones last significantly longer. I also found a short one that is tied in the shape of a bone (kind of braded/knotted). It took Peri over 30 minutes and this think was little - about 2" long.
When I used to give them to Allie - I would freeze them to make them last even longer - gave them to her frozen, that would help make them last longer too (but she could eat a frozen braided 12" bully stick in 1/2 an hour).
