Who knew! That's the second Italian breed that I've become aware of in the last month (the other being the Spinone). They look similar, wonder if they are as loving/lovable...
Wow.......they do look like Labradoodles!!
WOW...they are very similar in every way to a doodle...they are slightly smaller in size. Also, looks difficult to get one to the US. Thanks that was interesting.
Wow Marcia ~ unbelievably similar! Thanks for sharing that info.
I think they look a lot like Portuguese Water Dogs, except for the coloring. They are in the AKC breed stock category, not officially recognized as a breed yet, but definitely an up-and-coming breed in the USA...unlike the doodles, they are truly non-shed and hypoallergenic, like poodles. That, with their perfect size, is going to make the demand grow. Very high exercise requirements, though, like the Porti's, who are known to be hell-on-wheels throughout their first 2 years, both working dogs. The only US breeder I know of is in AZ; very important to get one from good stock, as they do have a couple of major genetic issues if not properly tested. I think we will be seeing more of them, as the demand for medium sized non-shedding dogs continues.
Our member Shal has a dog Coco who's great friends with Ugo the Lagotto -- can you tell which is which?

Shal's profile here!
I was right...but it was really hard to tell! Do you know where Ugo was purchased?
I believe the owner got Ugo (the Lagatto) in Europe because there aren't too many here. And you're right about them having some major genetic issues. Ugo can't drink water because when he does, he can't swallow properly and starts choking. Eventually he throws up water. The same goes for when he eats his food too fast. Apparently this is a common problem and one that there is no solution for (at least not yet or not one that my friend has found).

Ugo is a very sweet dog, needs a lot of attention and quite a bit of exercise.
That sounds like Megaesophegus (Mega-e), is that what he is diagnosed with?
Sure does sound like megaesophagus, and it's a horrible, horrible disease. I had a foster German Shepherd who was being trained for police work when they discovered it, and he died a horrible death. Funny, that dog was imported from Europe, too.
I've never heard of a Logotto Dog before - but now that I've seen pictures of them, I guess I can see some of the resemblance. :)

When I take Ari out - I get asked all the time if he's an Irish Wolfhound. Once I finally looked up what they looked like, I saw the resemblance. They really do look alike - but irish wolfhounds are MUCH larger.

I love when people try to guess what Ari is. :D
Yes, I always get asked if mine are Irish Wolfhounds.....It's funny to hear the breeds of dogs they think they are....
