Best blade to use with an Andis 2 speed clipper

I just got the Andis 2 speed (heavy duty) today and I am having some problems. My dog has a soft fleecy coat that tents to mat easily and she has been away for a week (being bred) so she is a bit tangled now.I have been brushing her and when I got out all the mats in an area, I tried the Andis with the #10 bade and a plastic comb that was supposed to result in 3/4" of hair. Her hair is about 1 1/2 " long now. I was having a lot of trouble getting it to cut the hair. The comb would go through, but the blade didn't seem to be doing anything. I looked at the Andis site and they recommended the blade #7 for a matted coat on a poodle and #10 for a closer cut. The #7 blade had longer teeth on it.  Does anyone who has the Andis use this blade?

I feel like I am really getting a bargain. PetSmart charges me $67 plus $11 to grind his nails. Murphy weighs 99 lbs and has a coat not quite as curly as Spud. He is very well behaved and they seem to look forward to him coming in. (He has also brought about 40 recommendations their way.)

$67? That is a deal for such a large dog! As far as his behavior goes, that should be every owner's goal. The groomer should be happy to see you walk in the door. Grooming training starts at home and it is an owner's responsibility to teach their dog good grooming manners.

I asked the groomer at our vets recently about a price for him. It was not a very positive response. She said, "I would have to REALLY look at him, but I can tell you right now its more than $120."
I have one groomer at PetSmart that takes care of him. He is excited to go there and everyone knows him, including the manager.

Ginny, been thinking about your girl today. If her pregnancy is her first, she has had to travel lately, and grooming stresses her I might leave her alone for awhile until her body gets used to all the changes. Just cut out some mats and keep her comfortable, calm, and quiet.
Spud stresses badly with grooming, where Starlit comes over if I get out a brush so.... just depends on your girl and how much she likes or stresses with grooming.

That is a good thought--Wish I had known that yesterday...oops! She is pretty subdued today and I wish I had waited. Her tail has been down all day, but otherwise, she is eating, etc., normally. I will not stress her anymore--she is clean now, but not as evenly cut as I'd like...but she will stay like that so that i don't bother her anymore. Hope she will be alright!
