Anyone here work with a program Paws to Read? I want to approach the middle school in my area and I would like to know as much as I can about it.

Yes, Chris Miller heads it up. You can reach her at "CLMILL1" at aol.com. Alva Hughes also helps out. A TDI or Delta cert is required for the group. Your dog will need to be very comfortable with small children and be able to hold a long down stay while staying relaxed and still interacting with the children on the floor. The children will be reading to them so it's fine if the dog shifts position or comes to lay on their lap but dogs who enjoy actively playing with children and can't settle might have a harder time with this "still" activity.

Did you have any specific questions? They have a pretty comprehensive FAQ page http://www.therapyanimals.org/Steps-to-Become-a-R.E.A.D.-Team.html

Richmond has a wonderful team- you should contact them! The Richmond group is called "Sprite's Hero" http://www.spriteshero.org/
