Huff used to poop a lot (he was eating junk food). We changed his food and he didn't poop as much. Now, he is eating some avoderm and pretty much every kind of canned food that has good ingredients like blue wilderness and wellness brand. He eats mostly chicken flavor and salmon. We also mix in some chicken, frozen vegetables, and whatever leftovers we have (he is very spoiled; last night it was spaghetti). He only poops twice in the day. He poops in the morning and in the afternoon. After dinner, he doesn't poop. He used to (he was still eating the same thing as I described here). He doesn't eat in the day-time (except for treats) and gets a pretty big meal for dinner. Is he pooping enough?

I would say this is okay. Remington only poops twice a day too... in the morning after breakfast and at night after dinner. He works like clockwork!
I guess it depends on how many times we feed them. Our Max is 6 months old and used to poop 7 times a day until 2 weeks ago it went down to 4 times, and now he stopped pooping in the evenings before going to sleep. I thought at first that 7 times aday is excessive, but I think it's a puppy-thing that will go down to (hopefully) twice a day. Max is spoiled, I give him boiled chicken am and pm, and he has unlimited access to good-quality dry food and water all day long. He pretty much regulates himself and eats when he is hungry, but I think the frequent visits to the food bowl during the day make him go more often. A friend told me hat if you feed the puppy only twice a day, they only poop twice a day. I tried that for one day and noticed a severe behavioral change (for the worse!) that day, as well as digestive problems for 2 consecutive days afterwards. I changed him back to unlimited dry food the next day. It took him about a week to go back to his normal self and regulating his food intake. Now I have my mellow, sweet puppy back, but he is a frequent pooper.
We feed Buddy Orijen and he goes 2-3 times a day. Morning (sometimes twice if he doesn't go the prior evening), afternoon and sometimes early eveing or at night. The dog I had in the past was twice a day like clockwork! I am sure things are fine.
Thanks both of you:) Maybe it is just a puppy thing. He used to poop more as a puppy. Now he is just an old man haha:) He is 1 1/2 years old. He is pretty mellow. Everybody is surprised to hear he is only 1 1/2 years old because of his size and how mellow he is. Kind of getting of topic there but I was thinking that maybe his food quality has gotten better and he is getting more nutrients out of it and pooping less of it out?
Buddy was on California Naturals since he was at the Breeder's. One day his poop started getting softer and then he had the runs...we had to deal with this for several weeks and he went a lot during the day. We switched to Orijen (grain free) and once he adjusted with the help of some pumpkin his poops are great and no more pumpkin. So it was a grain allergy. And Orijen is about at the top (from what we have heard) in quality so I am sure that has a lot to do with it. :)
Gavin goes 2-3 times per day. He is on grain free food too. He used to go more when he was younger. His poops are a bit smaller with the grain free because as you said, I think he gets more nutrients out. I wouldn't worry if Huff is acting normal and seems happy.
Charlie poops twice a day as well.... She eats a cup of kibbles in the AM and another cup in the PM. Since we switched to Wellness Core fomula from Wellness super 5 mix, the amount of poop had decreased.
Thanks everyone! He does seem normal:) I am glad that he is normal. This has really eased my mind:)
I feed all three of my dogs Taste of the Wild - Pacific Stream. They all poop 2x/day. The boys eat in the morning and in the early evening. When feeding leftover human food, please check out what we eat that can make dogs sick - onions, grapes, etc. Since you're feeding a good quality dry food, that should give him adequate nutrition for all his needs. Wet food is lower in nutrients and higher in moisture. If you can feed him about the same amount for breakfast and dinner, it will keep his blood sugar levels more stable.
I would feed him all dry food but he doesn't like it. I have researched all of the foods that can make dogs sick. I think I should start feeding him breakfast instead of one big dinner. Thanks:)
Lucy goes twice per day. She is on orijen puppy food

I wish my puppy will go twice a day, but she basically goes like 5X a day.
